Question:
Hi there
My friend has asked me if I would massage her son's legs (13years) as he has been playing a lot of sport over the last 3 days for trials. She's concerned it's a lot of activity and thought a massage of his legs would be good.
I do swedish massage and said I would do it for him.
Any thoughts on this with regards to the massage as it's a child?
Regards

Apart from his mother being there at the consultation and during the treatment as he's under 16, with Swedish Massage you should be fine - just make sure he understands he has to tell you if the pressure is comfortable.

Hi all
If it wasn't someone I knew then yes I realise parental consent with them being present would be the norm. I shall treat this asthat sort of situation.
I always ask any client of mine if the pressure is ok, and as pointed out more so for a child, I think I would be very aware of this anyway.
As he is only 13 do you think 20 mins in total is enough, 5mins on fronts 5mins on backs of legs.

Hi Deb,
I would also ask whether the boy himself actually wants to have his legs massaged - 13 year old boys can be a bit awkward - has his mum discussed it with him?? I would still insist she was present, friend or not, or another adult.
I would also think that 20 minutes would be sufficient, again dependant on the child and how the massage goes.
Good luck,
Karen
Hi DebChildren are just small adults, the treatments are basically the same though you will find they respond a lot quicker, if you are working tight muscles they still need to be cleared, so you can only treat each person regardless of their size on what they need to receive in each treatment (babies are the general exception to this one) :-)
