Question:
Hiya!
I'm coming to the end of my 10 weeks(thiswill be at xmas)of manicure/pedicure for my Itec course and am now starting my case studies this week... the problem is i'm truely awful at nail painting and im such a panic about it, i know its practice makes perfect etc i'm just finding it hard to practice on people (i can paint my own nails fine) nobody ever seems to be around when i need them.
I've also got to start my work experience in the college salon in a couple of weeks... im nervous about painting clients nails as i know they are paying for this treatment.I understand they know im a student so they know its not going to be brill and they are getting it cheaper, but i still feel i want to do a good job.
Please tell me im not alone with this fear of painting nails! I knew i'd have a weaksubject inthis course... i guess this is it.
I find it easier (and everyone develops their own way) to load my brush and place it about two thirds down the nail. Let brush fan out and then push towards the cuticle. I find it gives a neater line at the bottom.
Hi there
Yes basically place the brush just above centre of the nail, place brush and gently pushup leaving a tiny gap at the cuticle area (don't start at the cuticle area otherwise you will flood them with colour) Don't try to cover the nail in one go, do aband of colour down the centre, then one at the side then the other side. For bigger nails split into 4.
I've sent you an pm as there is an article elsewhere about this.

dont worry pink princess - im jsut like you!!!
i cant for the life of me paint nails very good - no matter how much i practice! im fab at doing my own, just not other peopels!
the advice the others have given is the advice my tutor has given me, it does get easier if you go half way down, then fan it out, push it to the cuticale and then paint down.
Good luck with it all.
Hi, another way to paint a good nail is to start in the centre about half way down and bring the brush up to the top then do another side and then paint from the bottom of that sideand take the brush in a semi-circular move close to the cuticle andpaint up the last unpainted side. Does that make sense? Also if you use a very good varnish (ie OPI) that doesn't streak you can paint a couple of coats gently without seeing any seams. It really just takes a lot of practice. Can you work on family first before youdo college salon practice, even husband/boyfriend. They are good to practice on because they have large nails and you need to put more brush strokes on.
Hope this helps
