Question:
I have noticed that a lot of EFT practitioners seem to have hypnotherapy/NLP backgrounds. If someone is thinking about becoming an EFT practitioner, does it make much difference what professional background they come from? e.g. do practitioners tend to combine EFT with hypnosis/NLP for a better outcome?

Hi Sebenny,
In my own case I have no NLP etc background but was drawn to EFT because of its simplicity and that I could use Reiki alongside it. Out of the group of 6 therapist friends who took the course with Dez only one of them had a hypnosis/NLP background. We all found it to be a wonderful healing tool!

Although I don't know that much about the other two, I can see EFT being the preferred option because, as Reikiangel said, of its simplicity. It's also very quick to work in certain circumstances. Eg after a recent op, using the shortest routine (the one that just stops under armpit) and not even sandwiching the combination of techniques (ie a 2 minute tap), I stopped the pain in one round!!
I don't have a hypno / NLP background but I am planning to attend an NLP course as a result of doing the EFT course and watching all the training videos. I think NLP will be an invaluable tool.
At first I thought I should do counselling alongside the EFT but thought I would gain a better insight by delving deeper into the mind therapies side of things. Of the 8 of us doing the course then, only one had any hypno / mind therapy experience. It didn't disadvantage us.
Reikiangel.. I took the EFT course with Dez too, fun isn't it!!
Hi Gussie,

I had hypno and NLP experience before I came across EFT. Out of the three, the one that I find gets results more of the time is EFT. However, I use a lot of hypnotic languaging and NLP processes when I am EFTing.
Do you have to have it? Absolutely not. Would it help? In my opinion without a doubt.
My mentor has no knowledge of either and is one of the best in the country who trains hundreds of new practitioners each year. So that goes to show that you can be outstanding, with or without it. However, she oftens asks me to train courses with her or on her behalf because of the way my style comes across, directly because of the hypnotherapy and NLP tools that I have.
You'll be great with it or without it.

I train people from lots of different backgrounds. Those trained in Reiki or spiritual healing with no previous counselling or hypnotherapy experience take to EFT much better and hit the ground running. NLP is useful to have with any therapy, including EFT, and is recommended by Gary Craig and Anne Adams amongst others for serious EFT therapists to learn. If you could only train in one therapy before doing EFT, either Reiki or Spiritual Healing would be the best imho.
There is a bit of NLP in the more advanced applications of EFT, albeit not in a formal way that you are referring to. And if I had a penny for every client that said..... "I want some of that great hypnosis you gave...." when I gave the person referring me EFT and no hypnosis whatsoever... LOL! I am actually bored with hypnosis now, just because the results with EFT without hypnosis are just so good, there's no need for the hypnosis at all.
