Question:
Open and close, Empty and solid, are themost important conceptsof Tai Chi.
The best way to distinguish empty and solid isjust forget it.Whilethe concept of Open and Close need much more attention.

Tai Chi are supposed to relax our body. When we are tired or sleepy, what do we usually do to relax and refresh ourself? The best and simplest way is a yawn or a stretch.
Fora good stretch, you don't just extend your arms, you make a deep breath, expand you torso and limbs, then you breath out and relax your whole body.
That's just what Tai Chi do, only Tai Chi do it onour own initiative.
Tai Chiis a balloon, rotating and distending without tension, rotating andrelaxing without laxation.
This way, you can enjoy the relaxed feeling like after a good stretch.
There are two kinds of Qigong, still Qigong and motion qigong. Almost all motion Qigong just do these two things: expand and turn, just like Tai Chi. Almost all still Qigong just do one thing: concentrate on something, just like Tai Chi.
Both Qigong and Tai Chi are simple and easy to learn. The problem is, they are too simple for masters to make a living from teaching it.
Many chinese arts are inherited from masters to students. Masters keep the essence of the art as secrets, students don't know if their teachers teach them the real thing. Masters do this because they don't trust certain students, or they want to keep their student to stay and pay tuition, or they themself don't know the secrets.
Energy contracts and expands all the time. Open and close?

I agree Open and Close is very important and the natural order of things, Sun style empasizes this probably most. I don't agree about Tai Chi being easy though, especially the form. Tai Chi seems to appeal more to intellectuals or it would be more popular.
Sun style were from Wu yuxiang style, in Wu yuxiang style, every form are consisted of four movements: start, continue, open and close;Wu yuxiang style were from Chen family, in Chen style, almost every movement is either open or close. Tai Chi is nothing more than Open and Close.
It's a pity most Yang style mastersafter Yang chengfunever feel Open and Close.
Yang style of today is totally different from the real Yang style Tai Chi, could this fishing dance brought up that matchless Yang luchan?
But Yang style of today is still good for seniors to do some exercises, only being careful of knees.
Hi, Simanan How do you know that Yang practitioners are not experiencing Open and Close, the concept is not new here and I do not hear practitioners being unhappy with their art. What is it you think they are missing and of what use is it? Will it increase their health or their martial abilities or could it be they are already doing it. Please explain in more depth.
In this country a man by the name of Dan Miller wrote a monthly journal on Pa Kua Chang and over several years he probed in depth in that art and made many visits to known masters in China. Somewould slowly reveal great secrets, which turned out to be known already. In his last issue he concluded thatnot onebranch of Pa Kwa stylehad everything from Tung Hai Chuan, yet these stylesgo onand are doing fine. This is a plausible scenerio that may also apply to TaiChi.
Yang masters make up an legendary Taoist as the creater of Tai Chi. What is Tao?
Tao is the rule of movement of the world.
What is the rule of mevement of human being?
Human being follows the earth, the earth follow the sun.
How do the sun and the earth move?
Rotating.
The sun and the earth rotate themself, and the earth revolve around the sun.
That is the way Tai Chi moves.
Waist and all parts of the body rotate, and all parts of the body revolve around the waist.
This is just what Chen style Tai Chi do: spiraling.
Does Yang style Tai Chi has anything to do with Tao?
I read where Yang Lu Chan combined other knowledge with what he learned from the Chen Master, so it was different. Most Chinese martial arts that I know of are based on the Yin and Yang are they not, how could you not be in the Tao. I believe Yang style at least is based also on some Shaolin and more which would be Chan, it was probably much like Mantis, a collection.
One of the best things Yang promoted was no double weighting which helped to seperate it fromChen style.
I understand Yang LuChan was not a large man, is this true?
Tai Chi is just a name, anyone can call himself Tai Chi.
If you would like to call what Yang Chengfu taught Tai Chi, it is called Tai Chi.
I practiced Yang style for many years, it was good for my health, except my knees, though.
Nobody could blame Yang family, theywere free tochoose what to teach, what to keep.
I just hate cheat and feel sorry for those cheated.
