Question:
I have been thinking about taking a course in Reiki for some time now but have had to put it off as i moving to South Africa next month. I forgot all about it and then it started popping again as it does every so often (and as I have been told Reiki finds you). Well, i have since been looking into finding someone to teach me in S.A. and have been put in touch with a lady who will.
Anyway, to cut a long story short I was talking about this to my father's girlfriend the other day who regards herself as a healer and used to own a healing shop etc, she went on to say that she is not particulary in favour of Reiki as it seems thatso manypeople do it for money and not for the right reasons. She is a firm believer that healing is a gift and should be used out of love and wanting to help, not for financial gain, if you know what i mean.Someone else who joined in the conversationwent on to say that if you are leaving yourself open for the wrong reasons then you will attractbad energy... not too sure if that is right(i hope i have explained it ok...)[&o] I do really want to learn it for personal reasons to heal myself and my loved ones but obviously it is nice to offer it to others too and i would like to offer it in the salon where i will be working or from home. I am a bit worried about whether i am making the right decision now.
Can anyone shed some light on this topic???
Much appreciated.

Hello Vix
It seems to me this is more a reflection on the people who do Reiki just for money than on Reiki itself. It's a bit like saying some people over-breed for money, therefore I don't like dogs!
It would also say that from your post, the bits and pieces all seem to be falling into place for you. There are countless posts in this forum from people who say that Reiki "found them" when the timing and circumstances all felt right. My suggestion would be to thank the naysayers for their concerns in a way which does not invite further argument ... you do not have to justify doing Reiki if you are following your heart and your intuition. You can do what it says in my signature if you want to! ;)(I like yours, BTW!)
Some "spiritual" people were quite nasty to me when I first did Reiki ... whatever their motives, I ignored the nastiness while remaining friends with them, and it soon stopped.
There have been quite a number of threads debating the rights and wrongs of charging for Reiki and I won't go into that here, other than to say, again, that I believe everyone should make the choice that feels right for them.
I wish you the very best of luck and joy with your Reiki if you do decide to do it, and a safe journey to South Africa next month! :)
Laura.
Hi Vixter...
Reiki is very much a personal path and a personal choice. Your friend is entitled to her oppinion and if that is how she feels about Reiki and the people who practice Reiki then she is better off staying away from it.
But if you think Reiki has found you and you feel you are ready to do it then please go for it.
I had a wonderful Reiki Teacher in South Africa, she has now moved to Canada.
Don't just go to the first Reiki Master you find. Look around and phone and speak to different Reiki Masters there and find out what they offer and get a feel for the person.
Hugs
Amber
Hi Vixster, I agree with what Holistic and Amber have allready said, Reiki is from God IMHO then only love can come from it, bad energies that your friend speaks of is no doubt coming from the people and not the Reiki, as long as you have the best intentions for the person you are giving the Reiki to then you dont need to worry, Reiki is another form of healing and all healing comes from the Divine Source.
I dont understand this bit " the wrong reasons" you should allways protect yourself anyway whatever form of healing you do whether it is self healing or for others.
Hi Angel Light - "the wrong reasons" was being referred to in the sense of someone just doing it to make money rather than for the love of healing.
Thanks to all of you, i feel positive again and I will endevour to seek the right RM when i get to S.A.
I can understand this view point but I would love to know which reiki master/practitioner is making loads of money from reiki. i really do not think that reiki healing or the teaching of it is particularly well paid.
If someone was interested in making money there are easier, quicker and more effective ways of doing so.
I am inclined to believe that most people who are involved with reiki are into it because they love it and they like to help.
I am wondering what your friend was doing in a healing shop if healing is for free...shops are not for free, neither is food or mortgages or reiki training.
Further more because you are interested in learning reiki, it does not mean you wish to go professional.
There are plenty of healers out there who don't like reiki, but each to their own, it might be that this is just right for you. Also you seem to have a committed interest in reiki and it does look like it has found you!
I am sure you will thoroughly enjoy your training and your reiki when it all begins and you will liely find that once attuned and working each day with reiki..it will teach you lots itself. I find reiki leads me..so ultimately you will discover how you fel about issues to do with charging etc and be able to follow your own path..enjoy!

Well, it ain't THIS Reiki Master - that's for sure, Hal!!
If Reiki does come to you, Vixster, just enjoy it! And enjoy SA, too!

Hi
I felt the need to reply to this post, so I finally got round to registering. Thank-you. I have just done my Reiki 1 with my Girlfriend who is a Therapist. She has awoken my inner Hippy (my words), I have always been interested in Holistic and alternative healing for a long time. And Reiki has answered some unanswered questions for me. Anyway my point is.
Reiki is a gift much like being able to Paint Picture or fix a Car. We all need to make a living and some of us lucky one's work with our gifts as our Jobs to help others and put a roof over our heads. I work in IT and have had a certain gift with Computers, I don't feel bad for earning money from something I enjoy and can do very well. We all have a talent and I think we should use it and explore it
As long as you feel its right, its OK. Trust your intuition it will tell you if its right.
Jon
So true!
Thanks everyone, i feel much more positive again. I will look around for the right teacher and ignore other people's negative opinions. I really want to do it and that is what counts.

yes, that is what counts...in fact the wonderful thing about reiki it is one area of life where it is RIGHT to do what is RIGHT for you without a need for justification. This is one thing that is about your own life path...enjoy it,
