Question:
HI
I have recently become a reiki practitioner,my question is i pick up peoples aches and pains and seem to get guidance as where to treat by pain and heat and cold on my body-does anyone have any advice on shutting down properly from this as i treated a lady with a migraine and had a headache for 2 days after-the pain was slight and i now seem to shut out some of the feelings, but it is such a wonderful feeling to have such guidance,i wondered if anyone has any advice. My great grandfather was a healer in a spiritualist church.
hello reiki Paul
what a gift you have, and it is lovely to hear how guided you feel.
I wonder if this might be any help?
When I have finished a reiki session, I step away from the couch and thank and release the guides and angels. I call on the Violet Flame to transmute all energies released into healing energies. Then I put the back of my left hand against my solar plexus, palm facing out and place my right palm on my left palm, then, then push my right hand away .and do a scything motion 3 times up and down the front of my body. This disconnects my energy from the other person and ensures I do not hold anything which is not mine. I expect others will offer their techniques too.
Have you asked your guides for help too...

Hi Paul,
I usually say if this condition is not mine then please take it away from me please.
That usually works for me and others I have advised.
Hope it helps you,
It is lovely sharing different techniques I am always open to learning more, Tigress techniques sound gentle also.
Luv to all,
Hi,
I have just had my first reiki attunement and was practising on a colleagues painful knee (lack of cartilidge). I was amazed to feel her pain rising up my arm to the top of my shoulder and slightly down my spine. It felt like I had had a tetanus injection. I was able to cope with the feeling but I believe that I could ask my guides to take the pain away if I requested.
Does anyone else feel that the reiki is transmitted through their left arm/hand and that they take the pain through their right side???
I still need to experiment with the different feelings/energies etc.
Grateful for your feedback.

Hello Carnelian
I feel the energy flowing through my arms and hands and it grows with intensity where 'deeper' healing is needed. I also receive guidance as to where to treat and what is going on (but then I am also a Medium). I dont feel anything entering me as it were but I do watch black and murky grey energy flow out of the clients through their feet during treatment.
Jus thought I'd swop notes!
Best wishes Sam x;)
Thanks Sam,
Funny, the lady with the knee problem I treated is a Sam too.
I have only had the chance to treat her and a work colleagues daughter who had an earache which had gone after a ten minute reiki treatment. I didn't feel anything with the earache just felt my hands being pushed away from the energy around her ears so I took it to mean that she'd had enough and she said that the pain had gone by then.
So far Sam has said that her knee has improved.
I also had an empathic experience when I sat in a circle once and felt a tightening of my chest as spirit drew near, my breathing also became very shallow and I felt short of breath.
Thanks for sharing your experiences.
May I pm u about something to do with my guide???? I had a witch card reading on here and I would like to delve a bit further and wonder if u could help. I have posted the message under the Avalon/Ancient Mysteries forum but it was an old thread and no response so far.......

Hi
I've experienced the same kind of thing myself when doing reiki and massage.
I've been in a bad mood for days sometimes from picking up other people's energies. it's good to know what they're feeling, so you can help them the best you can, but you don't need to be feeling it too.
I now visualise protection (purple and/or gold light), around myself before each and every treatment. In the beginning I would forget, and boy, did I know it!
Afterwards, I visualise giving them back any energy of theirs that I may have picked up. I also visualise standing in a 'psychic shower', where all unwanted energy gets washed away.
Hope this helps,
Lois
Hi Paul, as others on this thread have suggested, when I receive an echo of pain, I mentally acknowledge it and ask it to go as it is not mine. If it persists, then sometimes it is echoing something of mine, in which case I thank it and ask for it to be transformed into positive energy. One type of energy which always affects me badly is grief; it makes me feel sick and totally unwell! In such cases, I step back from the person and expand my energy 'above' that level by breathing deeply and asking my helpers to aid me.
If you are carrying patients pain after treatment, then I would advise you to ground and centre properly before you start, and to check on that even during a treatment, mcuh as I've suggested above. Afterward, close down properly and ground by eating something or if you are treating several, holding a piece of snow-flake obsidian can help.
Blessings

Hi Paul,
In addition to what everyone else has said:
all healing is either radiatory or magnetic and it depends on which type you are practising as to how to handle this.
It is vital in both cases that you work on developing your own boundaries, since a keen awareness of this should prevent any dis-eased energy from remaining too long, if at all, in your field.
in radiatory healing, which most healing is, you are not seeking to 'take the persons ailment and transmute it' while you are in magnetic healing.
If you have recently started practising healing, then radiatory is best. On this basis, seek to ensure you only emanate loving healing energy, but specifically do not try to take at all from the person..
Simply keeping this in mind when practicing should help prevent this is most cases. This will also help develop your sense of your boundaries, which is perfect preparation for magnetic work later anyway(which it sounds like you may already have an affinity for)
In general, magnetic healing should only be attempted by those who are keenly aware of their Self, and have experienced a range of diseased energies in different people. The reason for this is simple:
diseased energy comes in many forms, and has many manifestations - when working magnetically one works with the cause of the disease or ailment, whether it be physical, emotional or mental (most often when healing it has already come to the stage that their is a physical manifestation), seeking to absorb and transmute all the diseased energy.
To be able to take on board, and begin to properly transmute the energy, and not become affected yourself, requires a sharp sense of exactly who and what you are, so that you may expel what you are not.
Everyone develops their own specific method for doing this, as described by other posters.
Psychisam described radiatory healing perfectly. She is completely safe throughout her practice, and the healing energy helps the patient cleanse and purge the diseased energy out of their field perfectly well - none passes to the healer at all.
often people do not intend to work magnetically, but because they are not aware of the two distinct types, they accidentally absorb some of the disease. This can simply be cleared up by working on personal boundaries.
Radiatory healing is a perfectly fine method of healing, and is safe for almost anyone to practice. Magnetic healing does have the problem that residual diseased energy can remain in the healer if not completely transmuted/purged.
If you simply consider the above in your practise, in line with all the other pointers given by other people, I have no doubt you will immediately begin to notice a difference in your susceptibility to this.
IMO magnetic healing should really only be practised through truly feeling a natural affinity to take illness (showing development in this area from previous lives) or a studied approach through radiatory healing first. This approach develops the healers sense of boundaries and provides a safe way to feel and experience a range of diseased energy across different patients before seeking to take any into themselves.
Hope this helps - and a Happy New Year to you when it comes.

Hello!
If you're comfortable working with visualisation or intention, you could try what I do.
Actually make a grounding cord for your client. This can be a green tube extending from the base of her spine and curving down towards the centre of the earth, about 4" in diameter, or a wider tube enclosing the feet and likewise extending down towards the earth's core. (I say curving because I assume she's horizontal:eek:)
In this way you provide a conduit for any unwanted or negative energy that is displaced by the energy coming in through you, so there is no danger of it flooding back up into your aura/energy field. Also make sure that you are yourself VERY well grounded, so that anything that might seep into your aura but does not correspond to your own condition or state is immediately drawn off into the ground. (Of course, if you're looking for a headache it will latch on to you!!:()
I've come across healers who feel it is an abuse of beloved Mother Earth to send negative energy her way when we work; but my own feeling is that we cannot realistically transmute everything ourselves as well as channelling and directing the energy. (I'm not talking about Magpie's method - that involves "expelling what you are not", so it is safe and correct.) Perhaps the occasional incredibly powerful and spiritual being might absorb and transmute everything, but not the majority of us - and let's note the fate of those who, in their vanity, 'bite off more than they can chew'! Transmuting (or recycling) the energy is to my mind a wonderful and inestimable gift which Mother Earth offers us and which we would do well to accept with gratitude.
After all, we accept the gift of the healing energy of which we are channels as something freely given, and we do not feel obliged to repay that gift except by right thinking, humility and gratitude. So I cheerfully ground everything, knowing that we can depend more surely on the Divine than on ourselves.
From the sound of it you're an empath - that's where I started too. If this is so, see whether you have the gift of two-way empathy. If you can create an emotional state in yourself of tranquility, peace, accceptance or whatever is lacking and project it into them so that they experience it too, then you'll find it a useful tool in your work. I find it helps make clients more receptive to the actual healing itself, too - less resistant.
(If you are an empath, you'll find that proficiency in psychic protection or shielding is particularly important for your own well-being.)
These are to my mind important foundations - I find it interesting to read the variety of approaches on HP, as training is so non-standardised.
Do let us know how you get on, and what works (or doesn't) for you. I'll be interested to read your future posts.

It is interesting to read the various methods and techniques that people have developed with regard to healing. Within this mindset lies the reason for your pain.
All methods and techniques used in healing mean that you are involving your own thoughts and feelings, in other words your free will. When this happens the only energy being used for any healing is your personal energy. When you use exercise your free will Spirit must step back and allow you to do what you wish.
Allowing Spirit to accomplish the healing using you as a focus point means developing the discipline to simply allow the process to happen. Spirit is the animating force of life itself, your personal desires or intentions are not needed however well meant they may be.
This is not an overnight success story; it will take time and effort on your part. Equally to move away from current understanding is often difficult when you have invested time, effort and money. But be assured that the steps are simple once the desire to take them has been accepted. We offer the solution to you; it is entirely your choice in regard to its acceptance. The love of Spirit is yours however you choose to proceed.
Before any healing first ask that your personal energy is not used at any time. This is perhaps the most difficult to maintain, why? You ask. The reason is again your free will. As soon as you drop back to habits of the past and your free will again becomes involved the energy also reverts to your own. The other aspect of this is that before receiving any treatment from another you also request that you do not receive the personal energy of the one treating you
Truly nothing is required of you than your simple request that healing be given to the person in need. Even your intention has no place in the process because it is an aspect of your free will. Becoming involved in the healing in any way is to be avoided if at all possible. This is not an easy task; it is a natural desire to assist another in need. But taking on another’s pain through the link created by your personal energy does you both a disservice.
The energy of Spirit is unconditional love, would that same energy leave you in pain after administering a treatment? Equally unconditional means just that, your choices will be utterly respected and allowed to happen.
There is a great awareness that these words do not fit with the current doctrine, equally there is no desire to cause ant distress to any individual. So we encourage you to authenticate these words for yourself. Simply ask in Devine truth 3x if the words and information offered are correct and note your reactions. Whatever choice you make the unconditional love of Spirit for you is without question.
Dear Steve,
I so agree with you that the use of the healer's personal energy in spiritual healing can only be detrimental to the outcome, both for patient and for healer. Which is not to say that Spirit will necessarily be thereby prevented from doing any good, only that it is inefficient.
I personally believe that you are leaping to a bit of an assumption here, if you don't mind my saying so. My understanding of the Divine law of free will allows that something will not be forced on us unless we ask for it in some way or other.
Therefore, even to make the "simple request that healing be given to the person in need" is to employ our free will - and also to honour the capacity that we have been given to be conduits for the healing requested.
You offer not the way but your way, Steve: I am sure it is a very good one, and maybe better than what I have been taught and what works actually rather well through me. But there are many ways in which spirit uses us around the planet and above it. Any school of healing which claims that all the others are is some way inferior places itself on a pedestal at its own peril.
You say that the healer's intention has no place in the process, yet I see little difference between the request ( - a word which in itself suggests an element of doubt -), the intention that the healing be given; and indeed the gratitude expressed for the healing which we trust, in the Eternal Present, already Is. Spirit can work with all three of these and the intention of the healer is to my mind what most determines her/his detachment from the process, allowing Spirit to choose how best the healing be done.
Whether you "request that you do not receive the personal energy of the one treating you" when receiving healing, or whether you intend it in a non-verbal way, the result will still be that you are protected from such an outcome.
I've been a little sharp here, and I hope you'll forgive me: it's only one of my rather large array of personal weaknesses. But perhaps the fact that spirit can still heal through us flawed humans is a wondrous thing which we can together contemplate in awe and unanimity!

Hi Bigvoice
The words are not mine personally any more than the way suggested, as mentioned earlier this is why it is always suggested that the reader authenticates the words for themselves. If the words are from Nancy or myself they are signed.
Our experiences with what has been outlined in the reply to Paul are proof enough for us and we have learnt to trust the words given. We offer the words of Spirit for others to examine and leave the choices to the individual.
Some will try, some will ignore either way thats fine with us
