How do you all dress for work?!
Question:

I have always worn the standard white tunic and trousers when I give reflexology treatments but I want to get away from the medical/nurse/doctor look. I even had a client the other day call me "doctor"! The type of reflexology I do is moving into a more holistic spiritual direction and I don't think the starched white look is the right image, but I still want to look professional. What do the rest of you wear to work? I realise that many of you work in clinics and spas so would have to wear a uniform. You never see a Reiki practitioner in a white coat do you?!

HI Sarah
I am still at college doing Indian Head Massage and I feel like the white tunic is more of a straight jacket than anything else. But I do love the smart profesional look it gives. I guess after wearing the same sort, week in week out, one would get board of it.
How about a smart collered tee-shirt with you name on it or something. Or go for a different coloured tunic even......how about the mint green tunics, green is a very spiritual healing colour, you would still look professional, but not like a doctor.
Can I just add, a friend of mine, who is an holistic therapist, went to have to see a chiropracter recently, she was appalled that he didn't even wear a uniform and thought he looked very scruffy indeed. The fact that he didn't look good made her feel he was less professional too, even though the treatment she got was a very good one, she would of felt a lot more comfortable seeing him in a professional uniform. I think I would feel this way too and you have to be careful you don't scare off your clinets.

Thanks Angel. It was useful to hear your friend's experience witht he chiropractor, however aren't osteopaths and chiropractors thought to be more "medical" based and therefore should look the part? I'm trying to think how I would feel personally with different types of therapists.

Hiya
for new clients I tend to wear white coat with dark trousers however once i get to know them anything that is comfortable providing it is clean and short sleeved. People tend to open up to you more if you are not in whites in my humble experience - they feel like they are talking to a friend.

HI
When training I wore the white tunic top which does look smart, but yes does make you look like a doctor.
Since working in a salon, we have a uniform there, which we got from Florence Roby. I have a black top and a white top. I wear these with black trousers, and everyone always comments on how nice and smart we look. I didn't like the thought of wearing black at first, but it actually looks really professional but doesn't give the medical look. Although even the white top is more stylish and doesn't give a medical look. The tops are expensive about £50 but worth it.
Also I have a catalogue from Buttercups who have some really stylish tops that are for therapists but they haven't got that medical tunic look.
Hope this helps!

Hi, My college decided on different uniforms this year and actually I really like them, black tunic with mandarin collar and black trousers to match, sets us apart from the beauty therapists as well. Only thing is when doing reflexology I end up more white than black with the talc!:)

Alli has brought up a very valid point about getting powder all over yourself! I'm not qualified yet (just done my exams eek) but I have started wearing smart white tracksuit pants and a plain white or pastel t shirt when treating to minimise the powder snowstorm. My school has never stipulated a uniform but we need to dress smartly and professionally in clean clothes with long hair tied back etc.
Is it frowned upon not to have a uniform?

I wore whites at college but now I just wear a comfortable pair of black trousers and a plain white or black T shirt
