Question:
What do you think of the clean & easy or vs the traditional pot and spatula. Do you think there is a great difference in price? What do you use?
I use the pot and spatula just now, basically because that's what we used at the college when I started. I have had my pot for three years now and it's lasted good.
Hi there
I was trained using the pot and spatula which is fine but can be a bit messy at times.
I also purchased the PhD system, and have only used it on myself so far as I am waiting to get somewhere to rent. The video that comes with it is very comprehensive. What surprised me was they applied the wax to both legs at once. I was a bit shocked as I thought the wax might dry before getting to the other leg. I have used the same method as the video and it's fab and very quick.
I think you may find the PhD to be a little more expensive, but the plus side is it's cleaner, easily transportable with no spillages and no cross contamination.
The price you pay for the kit includes lots of goodies and 1 day's free training if the midlands isn't too far for you. You can also purchase a case.
The only thing I would say is, they ought to make the tubes see through or have a clear strip down the side so you can see how much wax is left.
I like it.

Hi Linzi
After using the pot and spatula method, I converted to the Clean and Easy system. I must say, after the initial hiccups of applying the wax to much larger areas than I'd been used to, I love it; it's so much faster. The system comes with a training video and all the necessary strips, pre-wax and after-wax creams. I did have to buy the thermal sleeve though because the cartridges get very hot to hold it keeps them hot for a little while.
I'd seen the Phd system at several exhibitions and was about to buy it when a therapist told me that she had found the C&E system and loved it. Not sure that it would be as portable as the Phd but as I'm not mobile, it's not a concern to me.
So long as you have several roller heads that you can clean and sterilise between clients, the risk of cross-infection is reduced. The Phd system is based on a new applicator for each client but I'm not sure of the cost.
Btw, I still have my wax-pot just incase - lol.

Lol, I think I'd still keep my wax pot, just in case:)
I'm just thinking that Phd would be easily transported, because my wax pot is a bit of a pain in the %!@* to ensure that no wax is spilled in my car, etc. I know someone is selling a phd station for £100, and I know the kit to buy is £100, but the station is £200 + vat - I think I'll get it. I am also wondering, not just being cheap, but I have a gazillion tubs of wax to use - would I be able to pour any of it into the roller? Or would I be better just using my wax all up first and then moving onto the roller?
Psssssssst, know that some people use that method to fill the C&E cartridges! (not me tho, too flippin messy!!!!)
I know it'd be messy, but damn the salon services/sallys sales, I have hundreds of wax. Unless.....
Hi, hp'ers, if you currently use pot and spatula waxing and are running low on wax... feel free to PM me and ask for details:eek:
Forgot to add that I speed wax anyway, so there would be no problem for me in that respect.
Hi Linzi
You'd be super speedy with Phd then.
I think I'm right in saying that Phd supply the wax in tubes (Deb379 made a comment with regard to not being able to gauge how much wax is left) so you wouldn't be able to use your surplus wax with that. The C&E cartridges are made of hard'ish clear plastic and you can see the wax. I know a therapist that uses tubs of wax that she melts and pours into the cartridges. I have been buying the Salon System Just Wax Depiroll Wax as they are cheaper than C&E and just the same - they have a variety of waxes just as C&E. The only disadvantage to this being, the cartridges are slightly smaller in size and don't fit so snugly in the thermal sleeve.
I believe that Phd have an adapter for your car cigarette lighter in order to keep the unit warm - there's little chance of spillage because the wax is in tubes. Looks 'the business' when it's on the station too.
Good luck!
Wendy
PS Someone told me that they've been using the roller system of waxing at college. Now I'm wondering whether they don't bother to teach the pot and spatula method??
Deb
Hope you don't mind me asking this. How much will you charge for your waxing with Phd. Say for a full leg, bikini and underarm? I haven't price checked the salons in my area recently to check my prices against theirs.
I charge £25.00 for the above.
Wendy
yea, I know I would have to raise my prices slighty.
How much, roughly, does it cost to do a waxing with either of the rollers?
edit: I think they still do the pot and spatula at most colleges, at least up here. Maybe not? They certainly didn't have any rollers at my college.
and another question (sorry), but can you eyebrow wax with the PhD system, like you can with C&E? From what I can see, they only sell the big tubes of wax. Am I completely wrong and they do small ones or what??!
