Magnesium
Question:

Both of my calf muscles have been twitching and have been having small spasms in them for around 10 weeks now and its driving me crazy! I worry about it all the time, esp when i'm driving and i have to often pull over..........
Also i find it difficult to breath properly, its like i take short breaths all the time, and to feel im getting enough air i have to keep taking deep breaths,
I've read in a nutrition book that these are a sign of a magnesium deficiency, does anyone know the best sources of magnesium, what else i can eat to help the absorption and what i should be avoiding? Or would it be better to get some supplements?
Any other suggestions and advice would be very much appreciated

Hi Unicorn
Magnesium is very good for relaxing the muscles it is a very calming nutrient and is very good for stress and anxiety and also insomnia, it does sound like you may have a magnesium deficiency if you are experiencing muscle twitches and you should also look at calcium and potassium for this. I think that many people have a deficiency of magnesium these days as we don't get so much from our food and it is used up to make stress hormones so when we are stressed we can become deficient. It is found in foods like legumes, seeds, tofu, nuts, whole grains and green leafy vegetables but you are probably best off getting a supplement as it is difficult to get enough from these foods, I would go for a good quality magnesium supplement from companies such as biocare.....
wishing you well!

Hello,
Thanks for your reply, and sorry it's late!
I still occasionally get the twitches now but nothing like it was, ive tried to eat more heathily to reduce the twitches and spasms. I think i'll start taking a multi supplement to help me along the way!
Thanks for your advice!
