Do you use sage?
Question:

Hiya
When i did my reiki, my teacher used sage to smudge the room, to get all the negativity out. She said that she does this before and after treatments, and we were told to also do it to cleanse the clients aura after we have done the reiki.
The only thing is i really hated the smell of it!! I have ordered a sage, lavender and sweetgrass smudge stick rather than a pure sage one, as i have heard it is a nicer sweeter smell :)
Those who use sage, do you find it really does a good job, would you recomend using it?

Dear me you do not have to use sage at all to clear negativity and slow running energy. You can use many things, including your reiki, crystals, a simple praye a invocation to the angles and the silver violet flame
Books have been wrote on this lol.
Intent is real, so focus on the light and cast into into the room, somthing I do is in my treatment room is have a amathyst/clear quarts point in each corner.
Yet I do use sage every full moon, does not mean you have to. Go with your intuition on this, if you do not like tit then its not for you
Nag champa
Rose
Dragons blood
Insense works too.

I have used smudge sticks in the past, but find them very smelly and overpowering. I have made my own with a mix of sage and lavender and was marginally better.
I only smudge occassionally, and I certainly wouldn't smudge clients.
It is a useful tool, but their are many other things to use, it is not at all necessary to use.
When I do my reiki, I don't do anything to cleanse, I use intention alone.

I agree really, you use what ever tool works for you (and your client).
I'm someone who likes sage and the use of it for certain times but when doing a Reiki treatment I don't generally pull out the old smudge stick as already seen many people don't take to it in the same way I do. A technique I was taught and one which I show to others is the wipe down; after every treatment I wipe down any negative energy, sort of a dusting down. There are different perfectives on this some say you should do it three times and other say once is enough so again it's down to your personal preference and how you feel after the treatment.

always good to use smudge wen you know y r not goign to have clients for a couple of days or even just a day, it is a very good tool to dispel negativity, but has a very overpowering smell.
When people have asthma or bronchial problems Sage and smudging is no good for that.
Sgae can be used to cleanse and clear you house and to be used in shamnic rituals, I would not think to use it on clients, as some would be rather[sm=eeeK.gif]

I love sage, and use it on myself either before dowsing and working with Spirit, or going to my development group. I never use it on clients though.
It is the only thing that gives me a great connection when using my pendulum and dowsing.

Interesting thread.
I've got clear quatz in each quarter of my studio, at the suggestion of my Reiki master, but/and I never feel any lingering negativity.
I just don't have a feel for it.

I use smudging as an ice-breaker technique when teaching! It works wonderfully - we usually all have a good chuckle. However, I have tried dried sage (smells uncannily like wacky baccy - or so I'm told!), smudge sticks etc., and now just use joss sticks. I found the dried sage and smudge sticks kept going out and/or were very unstable(in terms of safety!). However, I do try to asertain prior to the course whether any students have asthma, etc (or, indeed, any special requirements that need to be met).
I don't think smudging is vital - I find it's useful. I use Reiki to cleanse the areas and auras - although when I have done house clearings I may also use bells, smoke and Reiki.

Using White sage is the traditional shaman's way of cleansing and should be down with a door open to let the good spirits in and a window open for the bad spirits to leave.
Don't forget that sage is also a no-no anywhere near pregnant ladies too as well as asthmatics and people with any type of breathing problem.
You can use essence of sage and a water spray or an oil burner to bring the sweeter side of non burnt sage into the room, Cedar is also a good one, as is Rosemary or Thyme.
Lots of other ways to cleanse though, sound, fire, smell, especially citrus oils :) reiki crystals, all those work just as well.
