Question:
Hi everyone! i am a newly qualified massage therapist and plan to do be home based. my question for everyone is how late in the evening do you do treatments? i have an 8 yr old son who i need to get to bed as my husband works away alot, do i need to get babysitters etc etc. (sorry so many things to think about!) How do you all get round this? i would love to hear from you...please!! Thanx.
I occasionally do home-based treatments and when I do evenings I like to make sure I'm back home by about 10.00 so as to give me some "wind-down" time before catching some zz's.

Hi LuckyLouise
I try and have a final appointment at 8pm, then I'll finish by 9 or just after. Giving me time to clean everything up after the client and wind-down.
I don't have children, so not sure how you would work it. As your son is only 8, you wouldn't be able to leave him on his own for about an hour, I guess? So you would need to have someone to supervise him whilst you were seeing a client, unless you finish later by seeing a client when your son is in bed. Depends on how you feel about safety as well.
Good luck

Myeb you coudl keep the slot arround puttingyou son to bed free from clients, and see clients before and after? But I guess you would need someone to watch over him while you work. My latest evening appointment is 8:30.

Hi Louise
I too work from home but dont really work after 9pm so my last appoint would be 8pm - I would test the water for the moment and see how your son feels about staying in the house without you being in the same room knowing that he cant really disturb you. Pretty tough for an 8 year old. However my daughter is 7 and usually she will watch some TV if I am working but there is usually someone else in the house while I am working so its not a major prob for me. My yoga teacher sometimes has her class in her house and her son is usually stnading outside the door singing along with us while we are chanting - Quite funny and amusing I think but let me tell you the ones with no kiddies arent too impressed. To be on the safer side maybe try and work around bedtimes and dinners - I find tthat if I sit and have dinner with my daughter ( which is not always possible ) she will be happier to sit on her own for an hour while Im working - I do have one rule with her - Under No circumstance is she to leave the house or answer the door etc to strangers.
I wouldnt go out and get a babysitter just yet - maybe ask a friend to sit with him. How does he feel about you working from home. My daughter always says to me - Mom I wouldnt like if you werent able to collect me from school- the bonus of working from home is that you can collect from school and you can bring them here there and everywhere!!!
Hope this helps
