Question:
HI every one ,
If you are like me you have tryed most of the diets that come and go. My children would say , Oh not another diet !!!!! . Some work well , but as soon as I stopped the weight just came back , Now I want to lose some weight . BUT don't know which one to follow , as they all have some good points. Would like to know what you are doing in the of weight loss. At the moment I am going to try and have fruit in the morning , then maybe a salad sandwich ( made with splet bread) try to drink more water, and dinner at night. I will try not to eat in between meals.
love to hear from you .

Hi Ladybird- check out the thread re diets!
I think we ar e all doing slightly different things, but we have the group to give us support and motivation along the way.
i found the only one that works for me is Weight Watchers, it is not so much a diet as a change of eating habits and lifestyles. Everything is given a points value based on the calorific content and fat content, and you are allocated a certain amount of points each day to spend on whatever you fancy! The points level depends on your age, weight, lifestyle etc, and bonus points can be gained for exercise.
For me, this means that i can have that piece of chocolate of I really want..... I just have to allocate it into my daily allowance, and make wise choices for the rest. This means I do not have the cravings for things i cannot eat when on a "diet". I can also eat the odd thing between meals if i feel the need, again it is about wise food choices.
Good luck with your quest... please join us on the other thread too!

Not a diet but a change of lifestyle/food choices too... I have picked up on the food recommended by Gillian McKeith in her book You Are What You Eat, mainly for health but this change in diet combined with exercise has reduced the very slight bump i had that I wasn't happy with (I was eating up to 8 (yes, eight!) bags of crisps a day for about 5 or 6 years, plus a giant cream cake or iced bun for elevenses) - replaced that with rice cakes, breadsticks, seeds, nuts and cereal bars. Not as satisfying but I don't feel any worse in the long term, and know it can only mean a healthier future. (I do eat about 1 or 2 packets of crisps a day still but that isn't as bad.)
Also try looking at the GI "diet" which also seems to make sense as a long term food/lifestyle change.
I didn't have any problems with motivation but maybe it's because I know the old Darren will thank the young Darren that he will have made it to a decent age. (I'm not really schizophrenic but you know what I mean :D )
Thanks Guys for your help.

monitoring your nutritional intake, understanding how your body requires and uses the energy and changing your lifestyle so that eating differently isn't a hardship is what is truly required.
Eating a healthy large breakfast is good as this provides you with the energy you need to get through the day, otherwise you'll be going all morning feeling tired and lethargic.
Eat a medium sized healthy lunch, and only a small evening meal.
Snack throughout the day on healthy foods such as fruit as this helps to keep the digestive system processing.
Avoid teas and coffees as these are diuretic (get rid of water from the body) and drink plenty of water.
Don't eat anything or drink too much in the evening as this will sit in your stomach when you go to sleep and cause you a restless night or even prevent you from being able to go to sleep. Your digestive system practically shuts down whilst you are sleeping so having undigested food sitting inside you all night ain't good and will likely give you stomach upset in the morning.
And exercise!
It is a change of lifestyle but it's the best way to keep the weight down and be healthy. These other 'quick diets' work only to lose weight quickly, but don't give you the change of lifestyle so that you keep the weight off when you stop. In most cases the weight (and more) is put on afterwards.
Dr. Gillian McKeith does provide some good information on the nutritional foods and some good recipies to make some nice meals out of them (and you can always adapt them too for your own liking).

Thanks Energylz for your great import ;) I think that is the way to try and go. I would still like to hear what every one is doing .
