Question:
Can anyone tell me the fundamental differences between IHM and seated (on-site) massage? There seems to be alot of similarities.
I'm new here, so come on everyone - help me out.
I thought this was meant to be a helpful forum?
Hi,
I'm afraid I don't know the answer but thought I would reply so that you don't think you're on your own out there. I've just completed a two day IHM course, which I found really good but I would also be interested in learning the differences. I'm sure some nice peeps on this site will get back to us soon.
Cheers...Angela.:)
Thanks Angela, I'm sure someone will get back to me.
Hi,
Although there are some similarities - particularly with the face and head massage sections - I would think that the main difference is that IHM is predominantly a relaxing therapy and seated on-site massage is more invigorating and stimulating. Also IHM can be carried out in almost any suitable chair whereas OSM tends to use a special ergonomically shaped chair as there can be a lot of pressure and percussion involved. OSM doesn't involve any oil either. Having said this, I think most massage systems tend to overlap with certain techniques and sequences.
Hope this makes sense.

Thanks. I thought that was the basic idea, but hoped for a bit more information from those in the know.
Tarotwytch is right, I practice indian head massage and it is a seated relaxing massage lasting about 30 -45 mins, However on site massage is quick and vigorous about 10 minutes to fit into someones lunch break - you can do it on a chair or and ergonomic massage chair whatever suits your type of technique - personally I just use a fold-up low back chair - it's cheaper, you know;) Some people do deep movements and percussion but really it's up to the client, If you do a massage they are not keen on you change it slightly for next time - so they get a massage that is just right for them. Also you can change it as you go along too.
Hope this helps,

Hi
I'm currently finishing my on site chair massage course, and plan to do an IHM course from September. So, once I'm done I should be able to let you know the difference ;)
