1st Reiki Client - Consultation
Question:

Hi peeps,
I am about to do my first reiki treatment since being attuned to 2nd degree. Do I do a normal consultation like I would for massage etc or something different? All answers much appreciated.
Hugs and blessings.

Depends what consultation you do for your massage I guess. This should really have been covered by your reiki master on your reiki II course.
Tell us what you do for massage and we'll tell you if there's anything you could add or leave out.

Thanks guys. I do a full consultation for my other therapies, including health probs, Giles. I was probably told by my reiki master but hasn't really sunk in yet that I'm doing it.....lol Apart from practicing on a friend who swapped therapies, I haven't done a paid client for Reiki. I am looking forward to it though and am hoping my business will take off now I'm in a room of my own in a salon. Am also thinking of getting an Aqua Detox Spa for my clients.
Hugs and blessings.

I have a sort of registration form that I ask every one of my new clients to fill out, it covers everything I need to know for all therapies, including absolute contraindications and past operations, pregnancy details as well as their home address, doctors address and emergency contact details. If there are any absolute contraindications, I know straight away, I get them to sign a short declaration at the end explaining that I do not treat specific medical conditions and they will agree to update me on any new health issues.
Then I have a separate consultation for each therapy, normally with any local contraindications, for aromatherapy I have a bit about alcohol and sunbeds, for Reiki I have a bit for health complaints and improvments, for reflexology I have a meridian evaluation and for all forms I have a bit about what took place during treatment.
I like to have a registration form because they only have to fill it out once and I have a changes to health form for updates, but it rarely gets used.
I don't know if this helps at all, I am probably stating the obvious as usual! lol One person on this site suggested scoring how the person feels on a basis of 1-10 at each treatment and reviewing it to see if the score is going up or down, I will search for the thread and post it, if this helps too.

Hello HH
I myself don't do a consultation as such and don't require my client to fill in any forms. I just do a general friendly chat and ask why the have chosen Reiki and what they expect from the treatment. If they want to tell me about any ailments or worries they have they can if they want to (and usually do anyway) but I don't think it's important to know this when giving Reiki as long as they accept the treatment.
Don't forget, the Reiki will do what the Reiki wants to do and it's not us who decides how it will be used anyway.
I think it's important not to be tempted to lump Reiki in with other treatments like Massage or Reflexology and the like. I feel it makes it a little too clinical. I am also a Reflexologist and I handle a Reiki session and a Reflex treatment totally differently.

I think that informed consent is the byword these days and that usually includes someone signing to receive whatever, I still get people to sign to receive an energy treatment or session though with energy work is a little more difficult to lay out a procedure as it changes all the time :-)
