EFT, Memory, Concentration!
Question:

Hi everyone,
I have a question about what EFT can be used for. Can it be used to improve memory and concentration? I have this problem when I read a book. If I find the book interesting, things are not so bad, but when I don't find the book interesting (but I still need to read it), I find it very difficult to concentration.
For example, Lets say I am reading a book, I start from page 1, after reading for a little while, it suddenly comes to me that I don't know what I just read because I was thinking of something else completely unrelated to the book I was reading. Even though I was reading the words in my mind, I was thinking of something else at the same time.
Because of this, I have absolutely no idea what I read in the last few pages. I have noticed that this can happen almost instantly. For example, after reading only a few words on the first line of the first page, I will start thinking of something else. Then sometimes (if I’m lucky, what I mean by lucky is that I realise quickly), I realise by the end of the paragraph what I was not concentrating.
The worse thing is, when I re-read the paragraph, none of it sounds familiar.
Ok so that was the concentration part. Now for the memory part. Lets say I do find the book very interesting. If I read a page from this book, I will understand what I read, but when I try to remember what I read a few moments later, I find it very difficult! If I try to remember what I read a day or more later, I find it almost impossible to remember what I read. A week later, If I re-read that page again, only bits and pieces of it will sound familiar, the rest will be completely alien to me!
The worst bit is when for example I read 3 paragraphs of a book, which I find interesting. After that, if I had to explain to someone what the first paragraph was about, I will not be able to do it. If I had to do the same with the other 2 paragraphs, I will not be able to do that either.
However, I can “sometimes” (if I find the book absolutely fascinating), give (at best) a 2 sentence long summary about what those 3 paragraphs were about.
I would not be able to say, what the first paragraph was about, what the second paragraph was about and what the 3rd paragraph was about. E.g:
The first paragraph was about ….
The second paragraph was about….
The third paragraph was about….
So, can EFT be used to help me improve my memory and concentration?
Thanks.

Why don't you try it Narmi? EFT can certainly help with affirmations eg "my confidence is growing" , so why shouldn't it help with memory and concentration. Give it a go and let us know how you get on.

Good advice.
EFT also produces cognitive shifts, so you may find that your methods or goals change after tapping!

Hi Narmi,
I'm getting a sense of fear coming out of this...
Does "even though I fear being asked to recall things I've read" resonate with you at all?
Try thinking back in time. As an example was there a time, perhaps when at school, where you were asked by the teacher to talk about what had just been read in the class, but you hadn't concentrated and couldn't remember any of it, making you feel somewhat embarrassed or 'in trouble'?
Just a thought.

Hi spinal music - Can you suggest some setups?
Hi New Age London - I think I have already noticed that with other setups I have tapped!
Hi Energylz - Yes this has happened to me. But its not 100% true! Yes, I did fear being asked a question after a page was read by the teacher. Yes I was asked to explain what it was about. Yes I did feel stupid when I couldn't answer the question. I was never able to answer questions asked by the teacher! However, even then I tried concentrating but I couldn't, I just start daydreaming so quickly when I am bored! I just cannot concentrate or learn something when I find it boring. But even if I find it interesting, I have never been able to understand new learning material easily. I have to read it many times, and will probably only understand 50% of it for only a short period before I forget it again!
A good example is EFT. When I was reading the manual, I had to read it once fully, then I had to re-read the procedure at least 3-4 times before I got the hang of it. After spending 2 days tapping, I did not tapping for another 5 days, then when I came back to it, I had forgotten the procedure! I forget so quickly!
Maybe its something as simple as I am dyslexic! I don't know if this is true, but I cannot rule this out.
Thanks for the responses.

Hi Narmi,
I would go back to specific incidents at school and tap for those, healing the past so you can have the future you want, rather than the present discomfort which others, EG teachers, have given you.
Someone somewhere in the past has given you negative messages about yourself. Imagine them in front of you and just tap. What comes up? What memories/feelings? Tap on those. Then square your shoulders and hold your head up high and tap silently, visualising/thinking they are in front of you. What comes up? Treat that too.
RE dyslexia: Read and say immediately how that feels to you. Scary? Cloak over the head? Dancing letters? Hazy? Fuzzy? Strange feeling in tummy? Write down all that comes up, then spend time each day tapping on it till it's gone.
Let us know how you get on!

And then your could try "I deeply etc.........and my confidence is growing every day", and the same for concentration.
Do you feel like you deserve for this to happen? If not tap on "Even though I don't deserve to be confident" and change that.

As Suzanne said, pick out the specific incidents. It's always good to write things down because you can look back at it and suddenly see what the issues actually are...
Each of these can be turned into setup statements. ;)

Hi Narmi
Try tapping on the EB point whilst you are reading and then when you are trying to recall what you read.

Hi Sarahndipity
Thanks for the tip
How do I rate myself for something like "Even though I can't focus..."? I don't have a fear what I can't focus?

Your setups could start with the above comments you made:
[sm=idea.gif]Even though I find this book boring, I deeply and completely accept myself.
[sm=idea.gif]Even though I just cannot concentrate or learn something when I find it boring, I deeply and completely accept myself.
[sm=idea.gif]Even though I have never been able to understand new learning material easily even if I find it interesting, I deeply and completely accept myself.
Another thing you can do is to tap both your Collarbone points with one hand at the same time as putting your finger from your other hand in your belly button and moving it round and around, whilst reading for a paragraph or so. Your comprehension and mental alertness should then improve.
Have fun

narmi2 you have described me! I know where you are coming from and how you feel re.concentration. I dont think I am dyslexic, although it is in the family. I had those same problems at school too. I dont think its a bad thing. Some people can and some cant. Everyone is different.
