Question:
Hi guys! Loving the our page. Some really interesting stuff gets talked about here.
Have a question - for those of you who work in the Holistic Therapies (all areas) - what motivates you? What do you find most rewarding about your career? Helping people, learning new techniques, exploring new ideas? I'm really curious to know.
Thanks to you all for your time and energies,
Angie :)
Hi Angie[sm=wave.gif]
Firstly a big warm welcome to HP[sm=hug.gif] If you fancy it, you could always drop into the New Forum Members section and introduce yourself.
As for your question, and I can't speak for everybody here, I'd say that there are many motivations- but a huge pay packet is not one of them!!! Seriously though, I think that working with people and empowering them to heal themselves is fantastic work, and because each client will be different and have different issues that need healing, then the job will never be the same. Yes, there is joy in learning new techniques, but I think most of the learning comes from working with other people, there's just so much you can learn from helping others to enjoy their life and create it the way they want.
For me personally, I think when I fully plunge myself into the complementary therapy field I will need a balance between teaching ( reiki healing/spiritual healing that kind of thing) and clinic work. It adds variety and it's great to be teaching and learning from your 'pupils' at the same time:D
I hope this helps.
What about you?
Hi Angie
Welcome to the forum.
For me I found myself to be a natural healer etc. so it was a logical step to go professional and earn my living out of what comes naturally to me.
Most therapist learn new things all the time, as we are presented with a new problem we tend to go and do a bit of research and so our knowledge grows and if we cant find the answers in a book or online then there are always other therapists around to ask :-)
Basically, my clients motivate me. When a client who has been in severe pain, leaves my therapy room with some relief or someone who has come in anxious and depressed, leaves a little lighter, it really makes my day.
I only have to go and get a good treatment myself to remind myself how that feels.
Lesley
