Question:
Hi all, about 6 years ago i had an unbelievable experience whilst having a reiki session.
I started to breath more and more deeply and could feel an incredibley powerfull pulse go through me that got stronger and stronger (i can only descibe it as having wave after wave of beautiful energy wash through every cell in my body).
I learnt reiki 1 and 2 a year later and although i have now given hundreds of reiki sessions only 2 of my clients have ever experienced the same thing.
Is it possible to reach a state whereby every session you give can reproduce this experience?

Hi Stephen, I don't think it is possible to duplicate spiritual/energy experiences such as this one, nor is it a good idea to expect to, IMHO.
As you know, each session of healing is different and each person treated is different, so they will all get personal frequencies of energy according to their need. What you describe was obviously what you and your two clients could deal with, but what if you managed to do that every time and were too strong for some of your patients?
In my experience of other energy work, I've found that undue expectation of a particular experience can block your full 'immersion' in the present one. In other words, you're so busy watching out for the same sensations, you don't let go and fully experience what is happening at the time.
I may be wrong here of course, but you did ask for opinions...;)

How wonderful for you. I too have experienced this feeling whilst doing self healing, unfortunately not every time!! :( I believe you get exactly what you need from Reiki at any given time. I think maybe the feeling you experienced prompted you to become attuned to Reiki? Therefore Reiki gave you what you needed - the push to become attuned. :) Only my opinion you understand.
What you're experiencing sounds very much like the microcosmic orbit. Have you heard of this? It's what some people call inner Qi Gong. The energy circulates around the body and feels like a wave very much how you described

I have had that experience before, although not for the entire duration of the treatment.
Moonfeather said that in her opinion, she believes it is best not to expect or will something to happen because it makes it very difficult to stay 'present' and focus on the task in hand. I couldn't agree more:D I was taught that reiki is an intellegent energy and will go where it's needed- for this reason it's important to leave all preconceptions at the door! If you are expecting or willing the energy to flow in a certain way, then you will always be dissappointed when it doesn't do what you want it to...and because it is an intellegent energy, it doesn't need your instruction in the first place!!
I understand that you want give treatments that were as wonderfully profound as your experience, but I don't think reiki works this way. It's best to trust that the energy is flowing perfectly, in just the way it needs to for the individual you're treating. Just because you can't reproduce the powerful feeling you experienced, it doesn't mean you are any less of a powerful healer than the person who gave you your treatment. Reiki healers are only channels anyway, and it would be ridiculous to think that one person was more capable of letting energy flow through them than any other individual, so don't force it:D

I think you've had a similar experience to one that I had last year. For those that read it the first time round - bear with me!!! I'm copying & pasting - here goes:-

Last weekend, (a week ago) a friend I haven't seen for quite a few years came to visit. She doesn't do Reiki, but mediumship, and related things. So, we met on the Friday - lots of hugs and happiness - and a fair bit of friendly Reiki.
Oh, by the way, my third eye chakra was doing overtime, and had been for several days previous. That may or may not be significant...?
On the Sunday, we met up with my son and went out, for a drink and a chat at lunchtime. During the conversation, I just went to touch her hand, you know, to emphasise something I was saying, as you do. I wasn't even thinking anything about Reiki - it suddenly kicked in - BIG time!! The heat was unbelievable - I jumped, she jumped - my son must have wondered what on earth was going on! And - it came, not just from my palm, as normal, but from my fingertips as well.
Later, I dropped her off at her hotel, and went home. I started thinking about Reiki. I felt a build-up of the energy - and suddenly, everything opened! And wow - did it open!! I felt a rush of the most intense energy flow through me, and out of every chakra - including feet, knees, right up to the forehead - I think it was coming in through the crown - and it felt gold - pure gold. It was a very overwhelming experience! It lasted quite a few seconds - and I'm not one to burst into tears, but I did then!!.
This happened Sunday night - I saw a friend that can see auras, or colours, as he terms it - on Wednesday, but didn't mention this at the time. Saw him again on Friday evening, and this time I mentioned it - and he said "That explains something". I asked what, he said "When I saw you on Wednesday, you were glowing! And your colour's changed"
I used to have a deep blue (ultramarine?) aura, before doing Reiki, and after Reiki II, it was turquoise. According to my friend, and I've known him many years, and trust him - my aura is now an orange-gold.
I've been wishing to become a Master for quite a while, and have been thinking about where I can get it.
But I have a feeling it's already happened. We know that Reiki is not limited by time or space, so it's feasible that it could have happened before I asked for it - it makes me think of the phrase "When the student is ready, the master will appear".
Two other factors:-
(1) Just about every time I do Reiki on anyone, I have help. The recipient nearly always says that they can feel an extra pair, or even pairs of hands apart from mine. (Fairly common occurrance for a lot of Reiki healers, I think?)
(2) The friend I saw last weekend is a medium, and a pretty good one, from what I can gather.
I don't know who it is that helps when I do Reiki - I can't help thinking though, that one (or some) of them came through, via my friend, and gave me a present?..."

wow, that sounds amazing - I'm sure if you feel you have become a Reiki Master then you have - Reiki is totally different to the physical world, it has no connection to our study courses or the certificates we may gain, Reiki has nothing to do with this - it's like nature - it has it's own laws, regardless of how we try to regulate it, we never will. Even though I have gained a Reiki Master certificate, I know I am still a Reiki II - and I'm not ashamed to say that. I am still working towards being not only a Reiki Master but a Master in the 'real' sense, ie - a Master of myself. I think deep down that's what we are all going for.
Aodhan, I think you have made a huge step and what you experienced you should never underestimate - Its easy to forget the moment and think 'did that happen or did I just think it happened' - and you lose touch with the true experience you gained.
Ask yourself if you are a Reiki Master, I think you already know the answer.

Thank you Siggy! The original thread is still here, titled "Distant attunement...!" on 29/9/04, with some very nice replies. Like I said at the time, I got a distant attunement soon after, so at least I have a certificate - I didn't feel anything from that (though others have, reportedly), but I firmly believe I already had been given it.
I would like to do more with Reiki, and for that matter massage therapy - qualified a few years ago. I have a very good friend that lets me practice Reiki and massage on her, which is a happy coincidence (not that I really believe in coincidence - lol!!).
However, at the moment I have two p/time jobs, one clerical, the other bar-work, (the social, not the legal variety - more's the pity, I think the latter pays slightly better...!). Also, I'm studying for a music-related degree with the Open University, and work occasionally as a musician.
Just last week I managed to do both p/time jobs, spend one day working as a musician, and an evening doing Reiki/massage for my friend. Somewhere in all that, I'm supposed to be writing a 2000-word essay...
Oh yeah, I'm also re-building my kitchen - thankfully, it's now once again functional, though still like Schubert's famous symphony:- unfinished!
Aaaargh!
Does anyone know how to reset the body-clock? I'm thinking of altering mine to Martian day-length - 0.6 hours longer than here!
