Painful glutes
Question:

Hi there,
Just after some opinions really....
I have a case study who is a Triathlete. I did a treatment on Tuesday concentrating mainly on his tight quads and hamstrings and the initial feedback was very positive as he said his legs hadn't felt so supple for months.
However he tells me today that he did some exercise bike work last night and although his legs felt great, he said he got shooting pains in his right glutes which he could relieve if he pushed his hand hard into the muscle. Then a few minutes later he said the other side started to do the same thing. He said he's never had this before.
Am I right in thinking that some of the following could apply:
a) Saddle not set up properly.
b) Not warmed up, i.e. stretched sufficiently
c) He does have one left (right) slightly longer than the other
d) He pushed himself too hard after being lulled into a false sense of security coz his legs felt so strong that he overworked the glute muscles.
e) Was it something I did??[sm=eeeK.gif]
If anyone has any other ideas I'd be pleased to hear them as well!
Cheers guys
BT
xx

Answers:

Doubt you have done anything wrong.... maybe he pushed himself too hard.
All I can add is that if he has a right ilia rotation and possible right upslip giving him his long right leg than most of the pelvic muscles will be out of whack.
When you have given him his massage the tension will not be there to support the hips/pelvis in the way it was accustomed so the glutes and possibly piriformis might have had to hold on for grim death when he was cycling.
Just a thought.
