Question:
Okay... by my understanding of hypnotherapy, if the client has a deep-seated resistance to the process, then treatment is less likely to work or to have a lasting effect because the subconscious will reject it, am I right?
Here's my problem - I recently listened to Paul McKenna's 'Make you thin' CD - and ended up fatter! It is entirely possible that this is due to a very stressful few weeks, but I did feel that I wanted to eat less, so something was taking... On the other hand, I am wary because I've had problems with low blood sugar and know I can't do without regular meals, so that could have had an effect - perhaps my subconscious kicking in to prevent me fainting! :) BUT I DO want to lose weight - it's uncomfortable and not good for my health.
Long ramble, but the thing is, I've come to the conclusion that I am stubbornly fighting any hypnosis on some deep level. (I've undergone seemingly successful sessions before and while they seem to work at the time, I do wonder if I provide the answers the hypnotist is looking for without it actually coming from a deep level...)
Questions - is this self-sabotage worth investigating through hypnosis? Is it just my imagination and/or excuse? Is it possible, anyway?
Anyone? :D

Hi Moonfeather,
I don't do hypnosis, but my understanding from the EFT side of things would be that Yes you can have a resistance to things working, where your conscious mind is wanting one thing and your unconscious mind wants the opposite. In EFT terms we call this Psychological Reversal (or PR for short). Not all issues have PR attached to them, but with the basic EFT technique there is a Setup procedure which helps to rid us of this PR effect before we then go on to tackle the actual issue itself.
I'm guessing you could use the EFT Setup procedure on yourself before applying the hypnotherapy to rid yourself of that block that is stopping you from achieving the results you expect. If you want to know more then please feel free to PM me.

Hi Moonfeather,
The CD is a general one. if you went to see the man himself, he would make a different one for your particular needs, because there could br a message on there that is perceived by your unconscious to be against your system's self-preservation.
I would personally never have bought it, because for me that message is in the title! The word "thin" to me reminds me of times when I was thin, and I hated it. I wouldn't want anything to make me thin. Slim is great, but thin is not necessarily a good thing and I would have thought he would know better than to put that message out. EG with youngsters wanting to be model-thin instead of healthily slim. So don't beat yourself up about it. Just find out what it is that part of your mind is protecting you from; as Giles points out, EFT is good for that.
Thanks for that, Suzanne. You're right - the title isn't all that good.
I got the EFT manual from Giles and have tried a little bit of EFT. Have yet to try the CD again though. I keep finding new things to try EFT with! :D

Yeah, it might look liek a weird technique, but it sure as hell works. ;)
Glad you're finding it useful. Don't forget, if you've any questions please ask.

Dear Moonfeather
I am a hypnotherapist, deep seated issues sometimes have to dealt seperatly and prior to the origional issue ie weight etc being dealt with. If they are not they will often sabotage what you are trying to achieve. Often by removing just one & sometimes all of any seemingly hidden issues problems can themselves. The sub conscious minds job is to protect and it protects from its programing! If you try to do anything which the subconscious finds unsafe it will guide you away from it. If you have dieted before (and who amongst us hasnt) your subc already see it as deprevation, so your in a losing situation straight away, your subc will jump in and lead you to its view of health and substanence.
Subconscious blocks are just that sub and hidden - Oh that they wearnt! but they are.
When I help a client into hypnosis the issues are questioned and healed or removed where possible before the suggestion therapy is done. The reasons why people cling to habits, views etc are many, some leave the client in tears, some laugh, but all end up wiser.
Maybe you would benefit from visiting a hypnotherapist in your area, get a hands on approach.
