hypnotherapy not working
Question:

i have tried in depth hypnotherpy, i had three sessions for self-confidence, and sadly it hasn't worked. What is the recommended number of sessions?, and what are the reasons it never worked.

Hi there,
I had hypnotherapy a very, very long time ago, same as you, for self-confidence. I think I had about six sessions and I paid a lot of money, yet, they did not work. My confidence did not increase in any way, and my money could have been invested into something more worthwhile.
From what I've read about hynposis is that nothing can be done against your will, therefore maybe if something inside you is blocked or resisisting then even the best of suggestions may not work - that's my theory of what went wrong in my case. In order to receive positive suggestions your body and mind need to be very relaxed so that the new message is able to bypass any inner censor - if that is not the case it may be possible that something is blocking access. (Apologies to any hypnotherapist out there, if this is the wrong explanation)
I found that 'instant' solutions did not work for me. My confidence grew steadily over the years by constantly expanding my comfort zones, taking up challenges that scared me a bit only to find out that I can do it. I tried positive affirmation as suggested by Louise Hay in 'You can heal your life' and I also used 'Feel the Fear and do it anyway' by Susan Jefferies which I find particularly useful.
Don't give up hope - keep trying; I do believe that confidence can be acquired through experience and constantly challenging yourself to new and exciting tasks. And what often takes me by surprise is that even people who seem soooo super-confident have their niggling doubts about their abilities, but they don't show it.

Hiya
I wrote down a number of affirmations and repeated them over a number of weeks, reviewing and adding or dropping as things changed.
I also remember doing a lot of the exercises like forgiving etc. as there was a lot in my past that needed working through and to be honest that took a long time. Also, because as in the case of the death of my mother I misunderstood something which I only worked out last year, i.e. 10 years on. The lack of self-confidence in my case stemmed a lot from disasters in my childhood, which never got quite resolved. Once I addressed those, I felt I could move on and I did, but it was not a smooth journey, I have to say. But the affirmation helped me, as well as doing visualisation, relaxation and energy work, which at the time was T'ai Chi.
Hope that helps in some way,
Hugs,

I'm sorry to hear your hypnotherapist has not helped you.
Remember it is not you who are to blame but the hypnotherapist. Many people go to therapists and find they cannot be hypnotised, the fault is the therapist not the client.
You should feel results normally after the first session unless he is trying to work by going back to the causes. In which case you should be feeling some emotional releases which I presume you are not. Try another therapist.
Warm regards
Charles

Self confidence is a big issue spanning many different sub-issues. Did you communicate with the hypnotherapist in what way the sessions didn't work, did they ask, did they take a full history beforehand?
