Hi Sarah...
It is not a silly question at all...
All I can say to you on this is, that it is extremely difficult to have wilpower when you don't have motivation...

yer that is true amber.
but the thing is i do have motovation....maybe not enough. i dont really have a goal, or know which diet or healthy eating plan that i should or could follow.
i wouldnt mind doing the weight watchers point plan but i dont have the stuff. a member of HP very kindly sent me a spreadsheet of the points and different foods, but didnt know if it would of been easier with the book? as not all the things i eat are on there.

You can buy most of the weight watchers stuff off ebay...
You can PM me any time if you need help with the weight watchers stuff and I am sure there are quite a few people here on HP who will be able to help you with weight watchers...

Sarah...
There are two handbooks you can look at.
I prefer the old one because it is less complicated... It is called the 'Time to Eat' handbook.
The new handbook has got their new system in where you do not have to count and weigh the points and it is called 'Switch' handbook. It is called Switch because you can apparently switch between their no points diet and their points diet...
you will need the Points Finder and would recommend you get the new one... It has green print on the front and Magenta print on the back. (it is a card that helps you work out your point for different foods)
Those are the two things you do need to start out with.
There are other things available like an eating out guide which gives you the points for different dishes at places like Macdonnalds etc. and there is a shopping guide which gives you a list of weight watchers food available at different stores...
If you are unsure about anything please do not hessitate to PM me. I know the stuff on ebay is a minefield to wade through. And just make sure you get the cheapest price because some of those sellers charge prices more expensive than you can get the stuff on the Weight Watchers website for...

Hi
Have you looked into the GI "diet". It's not really a diet, so much as a change of food choices. Tesco sell a book for about £2! Basically because by eating food considered to have a low GI rating you feel fuller for longer, you end up eating less. Simple, eh! (That is the theory at least!) Also you could try reading You Are What You Eat (either the original book or the recipe book) - lots of healthy alternatives that mean a reduced intake of known unhealthy stuff.
I was thinking that the issue could be psychological, too. Is particular food a crutch for you, eg eating chocolate cakes because you're depressed? Maybe these problems need to be addressed directly.
As for fitness, rather than trying to burn 100kcal on some machine, why not take up a sport or activity eg go cycling with the kids, photography so you have to go walking to find decent spots, or even park at the furthest point in a car park from the shop entrance.
Sorry if I sounded impertinent; just that if only one of these ideas helps or inspires you then it's a good thing, yeah? On a personal level, I decided to change my diet to a healthier one, because I knew although it wasn't showing, it would hit me later on in life.
All the best.

Someone recommended the book - I can make you Thin by Paul McKenna on the Book review forum. It has a CD with it. Maybe this will be a good one to start with before you attempt any diet first? Just to see if it will work for you?
The cheapest place I found it was on www.play.com for £7,49 (that price includes the postage)

Sarah, I bought the Paul McKenna book "I can make you thin" yesterday, and although I haven't listened to the CD yet it makes perfect sense. If you lack willpower - then I think it might work for you.
4 principles - when you are hungry eat
- eat what you want, not what you think you should.
- eat consciously and enjoy every mouthful
- when you think you are full, stop eating.
They all ring huge bells with me - particularly no 3. I'm going to stop eating things that I'm not consciously enjoying - I actually stopped eating the other half of a Green and Black's Dark Chocolate and Almond Bar today - because I was no longer savouring every mouthful.
I think the CD will be good (knowing him) - I'll report back later on.

Edit - Ha Ha - crossed with Amber's suggestion!

:D Sharon...
Do you think it is a matter of 'great minds' or do you think like I think that it might be a confirmation that this is maybe the better way to go? ;)
I have received my copy today, but haven't had a chance to open it yet... :)
