Question:
Sorry if this question has already been asked and answered but I couldn't see it in the "not so extensive" search I did in the forums. I quite simply do not understand what "I deeply and completely accept myself." means?
Can someone please explain what that means, what should go through your mind when you say that. Does it mean different things for different people?
I appreciate any comments! :)
For me. it means accepting not just every part of me (the nice and not so nice bits), but also all the things I think, do and say as well. When I say every part of me,. I am not talking just physical either, as in loving my great big stomach for example, but mental, spiritual and emotional too. Very easy sometimes to say, but not so easy to do. What should go through the mind when you say stuff like this, is the thought that you really do believe it, what often does though is 'yes, apart from this bit and that bit!' I think I have a way to go yet before I can say it with real conviction.

Narmi - don't "think" too much with your rational side with EFT - try more of a direct emotional response. You could use the phrase to mean "I love myself for what I am": it doesn't matter if you don't completely believe it - it's a rare person who is fully accepting of themselves all the time.
Hi there,
I tried changing it to a less threatening form of "i'm OK" for some clients, but really the total self-acceptance gives the best results. I could bore you forever with this, but to cut a long story short..., I've experimented with it and found that when someone rejects the part of them that is doing the undesirable behaviou or having the undesirable feelings, then they are distanced from it, whereas when they accept it no matter how bad it is, then they can heal it. You don't fix or help something you want to destroy and reject, only something you can accept and love.
What do others think?
Thanks for the replies!
I don't think I was very clear about what I ment.
What does it mean by "accepting myself?"
It means accepting yourself as you are, includimng all the bits you don't like.
This is going to sound really stupid, but I dont get it!!!
How can I accept something about me that I don't like? Ok I know I can just say it, but then will I not be lying to myself? Am I not trying to cheat myself by saying "I accept the fact that I am shy". Its like I am supposed to lie to myself!
For example, lets say I am very shy (which I am!). By saying "I deeply and completely accept myself", should I accept the fact that I am shy and be happy about it, accept the fact that I am shy and don't care about it, or accept the fact that I am shy and be sad about it?
By saying "I accept it", should that make it OK to be shy, should it not bother me that I am shy , or accept that fact that I am shy and leave it at that because I feel that nothing can be done about it. e.g. accept that fact that you are shy, and you will stay that way, so nothing can be done about it, so just accept it. Is that the type of acceptance you mean?
e.g. you are shy, accept it, get over it!
In this instance, yes, I am shy, yes I can and always have accepted the fact that I am shy, but I can't get over it!
I am just finding it very difficult to comprehend that phrase!
Now that I understand part 1 of the pdf file i downloaded about EFT, I am saying things like "even though I have this fear of public speaking, I deeply and completely accept myself." I don't understand what I mean by that. If I don't understand what I mean, will the affects be weakened?
Really sorry for being to stupid!
