Can a client block the energy?
Question:

Hi all,
I treated someone last week who had previously been to another more experienced Reiki healer and I got the impression from the minute she arrived that she was comparing me unfavourably with her, from the comments she made and her general manner.
I don't actually know whether the pain she had, had improved or not. It hadn't after the treatment but often I find the improvements can appear the next day so I don't know whether the Reiki worked.
I have had good results from family and friends in the past so I know 'my' Reiki works but I wondered whether this clients poor impression of me could have lead her to reject the healing? Can that happen or am I being paranoid?

Hi,
Just think of negative experiences as fantastic learning opportunities.
As for blocking energy. We can block aything we want. If someone doesn't want their blockage removed, then it won't be. People only recover to the degree that they are willing.
We can all be resistant to change, even our clients.
But don't worry - it's nothing to do with you. It's her path....just let her lead it.

Christina

Dear floffle,
Just for today do not worry! Remember to detach from the outcome, it's not US that does the healing, we are the channel for the energy to flow through. The client always get what they NEED, not always what they WANT lol.
I believe that they can block the energy. I had an Uncle who was ill and my Mum (his sister) asked if I would go to his house and treat him.. I was happy to do so but while chatting to him before starting I immediatley got the impression that he was determined it was not going to work. For those of you who know my scoring system I could see him remembering the numbers he gave me before the Reiki and gave me back EXACTLY the same ones after. I asked him a few more questions and he tripped himself up by telling me something that he had earlier denied had happened during the session!
I then just sent up the request for it to be for the highest good of all concerned and left.
Now, my uncle had some very good reasons for not wanting to get better. My Aunt would have left him years ago if he had been well but out of guilt she stayed with him. He had carer's etc running around after him, a specially adapted car and you should have heard the way he spoke to people (including my Dad) when they were trying to help him.
They were enough for him not to improve his health and a year later he died.
I'm curious why this lady came to you if she was happy with the previous healer? Maybe that person had cottoned on to her perhaps?
Anyway, you gave her your time and let the Reiki energy flow, whatever she did with it was up to her! Try not to give it another thought, YOU know you can do it.

Hey floffle,
I fully agree with Reikiangel.......try not to worry. You are and always will be a channel for the energy and so the choice of what it does and where is works is between the energy and the client. Yes you can point it in the right direction but if the client, friend, relative, etc really does not want to accept the healing then there is very little you can do. It's like a lot of things out there some people just need time to accept certain things and some need more time than others to heal. Continue our work with trust in your heart in your heart and it won't be long before you find yourself "on par" with more experience Reiki healers (if there is such a measure).

I agree. You provide the channel for the energy but cannot force the recipient to accept it.
What the client consciously wants and what they sub-consciously want can be two different things. It may be that the client was consciously saying "i want to get rid of this pain", but their sub-conscious has grown to live with and accept the pain so does not want to get rid of it. Muscle testing the client would show if this was the case.
As such, the client may not be consciously trying to block the energy, but is rather subconsciously doing it. Their subconscious intent to hold onto the pain will increase their bonding to that pain and hold onto it strongly, so that even our reiki energy will not manage to shift it or break that bond to give release.
It's also possible that the reason the subconscious is comfortable with and holding onto the pain is because it provides the client with something else they need... perhaps emotional sympathy from friends or relatives or some suchlike positive benefit. In which case, the client needs assistance to help them with this issue primarily, i.e. in this example, to help them realise that they can also live happily without the need to get sympathy from others.
As for why she came to you when she was happy with her previous therapist, could be any number of reasons. Perhaps the other therapist was not able to treat her for some other reason; could have been on holiday perhaps? or maybe the previous healer was managing to get some light relief for the client, but not "solving" the problem in the clients eyes so they wanted to try someone different. Unfortunately, people tend to expect that they will receive the same or better from someone different, and will be quite defensive if things are done differently to what they are used to as they won't be able to compare what is happening (for some reason people always have a need to compare things and then critisize others when they are unable to do so).
There is nothing wrong with what you have been doing. My intuition tells me the client has a few more issues than just a 'pain' that need to be looked into as well.

Don't worry, Reiki will do the work! ;)
She was probably apprehensive, like when you're forced to try a new hairdresser because your usual one can't do your hair! [:o]

Hi Floffle
Yes I do believe that clients can block out the Reiki energy like Giles says what the conscious mind wants & what the subconscious mind wants may be differant things.
as it is said that the reciever must ask for the Reiki, I would say that in this case your client was guided by her subconscious mind to ask for the Reiki but on the day her conscious mind has taken over and anxiety comes into play. Like the others have said above don't worry she will get what she needs....

Just A question to add onto this though if you don't mind:). It going through my head at the moment that if this lady or anyone else has asked for healing to me that means despite her attitude that her sub conscious still wants this energy for healing.... Soo what do you think about idea that the energy you have directed to this lady will just hang around her until she is relaxed enough to let iot in & recieve it ???????

Hi Everyone,
Thank you for your replies, I feel much more encouraged now.
Christina, you're right, I will think of it as a learning experience and I know that it is her path. Yes, Nick, I should let it go and stop worrying, I'm getting there, especially having read your replies.
Reikiangel, she came to me because her previous healer was away at the time, and I have heard from a mutual friend that she did compare me unfavourably to her. Well, I'm not going to apologise for not being someone else! I didn't use your scoring system and it might have helped if I had, so there's something for me to learn from this.
Yes, Giles, I also understand from this mutual friend she does tend to be critical as you suggested she might be, and my approach was different to the other healer, so you were right about that.
Poppet, lol!
I felt at the time that the energy around the area of pain was a lot less dense after the treatment and had expected that there would be some improvement. The only thing she didn't tell our mutual friend was whether it had worked or not!
Maria, now that is an interesting thought. I have come across another person, a family member who accepted an offer of Reiki but who I felt had a lot invested in their illness and I didn't feel was fully accepting, although she did report a improvement afterwards.
Ah well, they say there's nowt so queer as folk!!
Thanks again,
