Question:
Hiya all.
This probably should go in the student forum but I thought that this is specific to aroma and that more people on here might be able to throw me some suggestions :D
I need to write (in the style of an article) about an evaluation of a therapeutic skill for a treatment of an area of pain (eg head and neck, lower back etc..) and then compare this to aromatherapy.
I need to draw on research and evaluate it.
My dilema is, what therapy should I use?
I was thinking maybe acupuncture??
I want to use something that has lots of research to make it easier.
Does any have any suggestions??
Thanks
Tx
um, i'm not sure where to start with this one?
have you studied aromatherapy trinity? or is that what you are studying now?!!!
area's i would suggest to focus on aroma would be the olfactory system (sense of smell) and how this makes a person feel. also the reactions that are triggered, chemicals in the oils stimulate the endocrine system in different ways which obviously then alters our hormone production etc etc etc....
obviously accupuncture is the insertion of needles etc along meridians releasing blockages in the flow of chi!
both are very different but can be used to result in the same end effect - less pain in the neck ;)
i think theres lots of research out there that you could use on both subjects, and i think if i were you i would definately use 2 very different types of therapies
(im struggling to put what i want to say into words, i hope ive not insulted your intelligence by being too basic anyway!)
hope it helps!

No Emma , you havent insulted my intelligence! Im a basic kinda girl!!!
Thanks for your reply and suggestions.
I should have explained myself better, Im a qualified aromatherapist and in my final year of my complementary therapies degree (Yay!![sm=jump1.gif])
So I have to compare my own therapy (aroma) and another......just wondering if anyone had any experience with any research carried out on pain (of anywhere) and a different therapy.
I suppose my worry is (maybe worry in a little strong a word!) that Ill pick a therapy that has very little research studes carried out and Ill struggle to write it!
Thanky you again for the reply.

Hi
You can find abstracts and details of a whole load of medical research at PubMed. A search of acupuncture brings up nearly 10,000 results, but of course you can narrow the search!
If you want to go into greater detail on any given article, or want to investigate acupuncture research more seriously, then the Acupuncture Research Resource Centre (ARRC) may be able to help you (its been a while since I've used them, so not sure how it works). I believe they can be contacted through the British Acupuncture Council. Basically, they collate all the research into acupuncture from around the world.
HTH!
:)Aragorn:)
Thanks Aragon!
Ive used pubmed before but I didnt know about the ARRC or the BAC, thanks for those.
It seems as tho Ill have no shortage of research for acupuncture!!
Acupuncture it is then! :D
Thanks again both for your input.

You might want to check out the Internet Health Library, they have quite a lot of synopsis of research which might help steer you to some interesting pieces.
