Eft and epilepsy
Question:

Hi
Please can anyone let me know whether it is safe to use eft if you have epilespy?
Thanks, Annie

Looking at www.emofree.com this is all I could find http://www.emofree.com/faq/epilepsy.htm which doesn't give a great deal of information. A google search seemed to find more so you may want to try that. I have never heard that EFT is contraindicated for epilepsy sufferes, but would be interested to hear about others views.

Thanks Sarah
I love using eft, and have found that it's the most effective therapy I have ever tried/used. However, I've just been diagnosed with temporal lobe epilepsy (simple partial seizures) and I wondered whether tapping cetain points might stimulate things a bit too much. I haven't noticed any particular links, but have had a bad day of it today, after quite intensive tapping on several emotional issues over the past few days. The seizures may have been caused by the stress of the issues as much as anything else, but it started me wondering. I don't seem to have any success when I tap as I feel a seizure coming on as yet, but if it is safe to use I would love to regulate the epilespy with eft as I don't want to start medication (too many scary side effects). I would love to hear any suggestions/ideas if anyone has any experience of this.
Thanks very much, Annie

Hi Annie,
I don't know very much about epilepsy but you could try massaging the points instead of tapping.
In Advanced patterns of EFT, Silvia Hartman writes about Tellington TTouch where acupressure points are stimulated by sliding the skin over the point first in a full circle (from 12 o'clock to 12 o'clock) and then without releasing the light pressure that holds the skin steady, back to the 6 o'clock position.
She also suggests as an alternative stroking downwards as though you were removing a small stain.
Both of these methods are are more gentle than the tapping and she recommends them when working with anything that would be made worse by percussive beats.
If you can find a practitioner who has experience of dealing with EFT and epilepsy then that might be a useful place to start.

The great thing about EFT is that it removes blocked energy from triggering emotions or physical issues etc.
If you have epilepsy and are unsure or just a little wary of giving it a go, you could always do a simple muscle test to check if you body is happy to use EFT or if trying it would be problem for you. That way, you will know for sure if EFT is safe for you specifically.

Hi Annie,
What do you say when you tap just as you first realise the seizure is about to start happening?

Answers:

Hi
I have tried some of the following phrases
Even though I have this epilepsy
Even though I have these seizures etc
Even though I feel strange
Even though I can feel a seizure coming
Even though I can feel this burning
Even though everything seems strange
Even though I have this dejavu
And usually....Even though I hate these feelings (because they do make me feel depressed and anxious)

Any luck with it yet then?

Not as of yet! I will keep trying though! :D

Hi Annie : I was wondering if you could tap on the cause of your epilepsy. If it was caused by an accident or an illness, it might help to tap around this.

Hi Annie,
Re Spinal Music's post, also tapping away on all stressful events helps.
And it would be interesting to tap silently on all the points as you feel a fit coming on, you may be able to reduce the severity of the fits this way. I'd really appreciate feedback re the severity of the fits, as I only have experience with 2 epilepsy clients and would love to know more; I hope you don't mind :)
