Question:
Hi All, Just wanted to share a letter I recieved this morning regarding the above from my MP.
'Further to my origional reply to you regarding the EU's Food Supplements Directive, I am writing to let you know about recent developments.
The European Court this morning published a provisional judgement overturning the controversial Food Supplements Directive and ordering it to be re-written, Normally the final decision of the Court reflects this initial judgement.
This is a major breakthrough in the campaign against the impending vitamin ban, and justifies the efforts we have put in to trying to halt the Directive. It also makes a complete mockery of the governments vigorous defence of the ban. In it's submission to this case, the Department of Health stood by the directive, describing it as proportionate and consistent with subsidiarity.
The final verdict will not come until later in the year but in the meantime I wiull be pressing for the regulations that will enforce the Directive in the UK to be suspended. If they are not, retailers and manufacturers will still have to prepare their products for the start date of August 1st on the assumption that the Directive is still in force.'
Apologies for any typos... in a hurry!
Ciao for now :D
That's a good step forward. Let's hope we can prevent it from coming into force. (Those major pharmacutical (sp?) companies have a lot to answer for. ggrrrrr! [:@])
Yep, it's a positive step forward but I won't get excited just yet...
This was on the news last night, but so far the only report I can find via the web is:
