Question:
Can anyone please tell me if ear candles would be safe for a person who has a very tiny hole in their ear drum? He gets problems with wax build up but can't have them syringed.
Hi Daydreamer,
We were always advised that a perforated eardum, etc, would be contraindicated to having the treatment. If I had a client like that I wouldn't treat them. Also, you'll probably find your insurance wouldn't be valid, so if anything happened you wouldn't be backed.
Hope this helps,
Thanks Bess, I'm not an ear candle therapist so wouldn't be doing it, just a thought for a friend! I s'pose he best stick to the olive oil then! :)
Red Bess is right, ear candling is contrainidcated where a perforation in the ear drum is present.
I would also be reluctant to put olive oil or anything else in the ear canal if the membrane is perforated, as this could find it's way into the inner ear and cause problems. Please check with your doctor or ENT specialist before doing this.
