Getting going with Reiki...
Question:

Hi all,
I done my 1st degree Reiki course last summer & thoroughly enjoyed it & was actually quite good at it! (I seem to be quite intuitive/sensitive).
Since then I've not done anything with it :( & I feel now is the time to start to practise again :)
I feel mainly I am lacking in confidence. I don't really know where to start practising. I have volunteers, but should I seat them? lay them down? Is it better to treat myself first? How important are the hand positions? Should I balance my chakras first? Can you balance others chakras whilst giving reiki to them..? Phew!!!...
I tried practising on my mums cat the other day (with advise from a HP member! - thank you!) and this has made me feel a little more confident as I think the cat benefitted from it, as did I.
Any hints or tips you can give would be greatly appriciated.
Love, light & peace,
Lynsey x

Hi Lynsey, I was the same as you and didn't use it all that much at first. Don't worry (Just for today!) about your lack of confidence, as Reiki comes through anyway, whether you are confident or not. Confidence will grow the more you use it (as with most things). There isn't a right or wrong I don't think. I didn't used to self-treat, and I just used to put my hands on the sore bits of friends and relatives, and that was wonderful. Then I got into a habit of giving myself Reiki before I sleep, and now I also give full body treatments attending to the chakras and the hand positions.
Reiki is easy: there are virtually no hard and fast rules. Enjoy it, and it will take you with it.

Thank you Sharon. Just for today I will not worry! ;)
I shall let reiki guide me as you have said and see where it takes me.
I'm looking forward to practising!!!
I shall keep you posted!!
Thanks once again, I don't feel so afraid now!

The self-treatments are important as (I understand) it gets the energy flowing through you. Plus you get a free reiki treatment.

I quite agree with Sharon, just go with the flow.:)
I did my Riki Master/Teacher quite recently and have been practicing a lot on myself before I start giving attunments. The more I practice the more intuative it all becomes. I no longer use strict hand positions and even the symbols are used more as a method of focusing the mind on the intent rather than the symbol itself.
I also give myself a blast before going to bed, this is also when I send the distance reiki as well. It's very easy to concentrate at this time, providing it's not too late and you're not too tired. Nice and quiet, no telly/music/kids playing outside. Very good for sleeping and getting up in the morning.
I got hold of a good book about Reiki just a few weeks ago from Amazon, 'The Reiki Sourcebook'
by Bronwen Stiene, Frans Stiene. I haven't read all of it but am finding it very useful, it's got up to date reiki history and sets everying out in a very sensible wey. Good if you trying to find your way throught the huge ammounts of 'myth and mystery' about reiki.
Have fun with it and good luck

Dear Laura,
Specially for you -
Just for today I will develop my sense of humour
AND
Just for today I WILL be cheeky to Paul - and anyone else that comes to mind.
It is essential to have a sense of humour and to be able to receive as well as dish it out!!
There are too many po-faced people (probably in anoraks ;)), with closed minds being full of themselves and having no sense of humour, pontificating about their chosen subject to the bored multitudes.
Healing and Reiki are FUN. Light-hearted and lovely.
Just for today I will blow a raspberry at all po-faced people.
