Practicing Reiki
Question:

Hi Can anyone tell me if you can practice reiki when you have Reiki I and II? Someone told me you can only charge for it after you are a Master or at least have Reiki III. What is Reiki III?
At the moment I practice on family and friends but as more people approach me I am thinking about doing it for others and possibly charging but want to make sure that it is ok for me to do so.

Hi Spiritdancer
You can practice Reiki on others at level I, but to charge you should be level II,
it is also at level II that you can get practicioners insurance
Some people say at level I you should only self heal, But I was always trained at that level that practice on others is a good way to develop, so if your level I, continue practicing with family and friends, and I'm sure you will soon feel yourself ready to move onto Reiki level II

Hi Spiritdancer, whether you charge for Reiki or not is up to you. While a first degree may not be seen as having enough experience in healing to charge, many people stay at this level for years and are as good as or better than some masters, so it is up to you and your confidence, not the opinions of others. (Reiki 3 is another way of defining master level)
So - it's up to you. By all means charge for your time and effort, as it is part of the system as taught. Your charge can be money or another exchange you feel comfortable with. A good guideline is to find out what a massage goes for in your area, remembering that those in clinics will probably charge more to cover rent costs. Where I am, most people are comfortable with £20- £30 a session, while others blanch at the thought of £10! Go figure...

[sm=animal-smiley-085.gif]One important thing is to remember if you are giving treatments to other people outside of your close family and friends, you should think seriously about insurance. You can give treatments as a practitioner with Reiki 2. I did).
Enjoy what you're doing - charging for treatments is optional. Sometimes you will find someone who genuinely NEEDS help but is unable to afford a cash payment. I have often found that when I give Reiki freely and with compassion where it is needed, there is a knock-on effect - i.e. universal law of abundance - in other ways.
