Question:
i have a client for massage who is on anti depressants that she would rather not be on. she has been on them for about 7 years, try to stop but feels yuk so goes back on them.
doctor has suggested that her natural serotonin and feel good factors have been suppressed and arent kicking in to help her off. (or some such).
i suggested we try reflexology as i think that is good for kick starting body imbalances but then i also thought this might be a good job for EFT.
i am supposing that EFT can do no harm so i would like to try it with her. (got to start somewhere). she has spoken to me of the trauma that brought about the depression, so i do now the details.
is their a general tapping affirmation anyone can suggest we try? and how do you know its worked so that you can wean off the tablets? (obviously i will not be telling her to leave off meds... or should i, in this instance? gawd the doc is hardly likely to say EFT works...)
thanks
Obviously you can't tell her to come off the meds, but suggest that as she has the EFT treatments, she may wish to assess how she feels and deal with her doctor with a view to adjusting the amount of meds as seems appropriate.
Depression is a very general area, but as you say she has an idea about the "event" from which the depression arose, it would be an idea to start with that event and look at how she was feeling just before, during and after and tackle each of the emotions that arise from that. I'm sure that once you use that as a starting point you may find many aspects arising which will also need treating. There will no doubt be enough aspects to keep a few sessions of EFT going.
You may also try using the choices method with the EFT as I have found that someone with depression may have more trouble saying that they are OK or that they accept themselves. The choices method will allow them to feel that they are participating more in making the choice about how they want to be.
I'm sure you'll get plenty of good advice from the more experienced EFTers on here.
