Question:
Hi,
I came across this forum and i wanted to see your view on this diet.
The story is, I have severe acne, and my doctor told me to eat nothing but red apples and drink water for 3 days. This appearantly is to detox and will make the acne better.
Do you think it will work? Do you think it's sensible to go through with it. Has anyone ever tried it.
Cheers
A mono fast (eating only one type of food, usually fruit) is known to be beneficial for some conditions. However I'm afraid I lack the knowledge to be able to comment on it's benefits for your condition.
You would be able to find out in Michael Van Straten's book 'Superfoods'.
Try it?!?! It is only 3 days, so if it is no good it wont do you any harm.
Has the doctor put you on medication for your acne or referred you to a dematologist?
Jo
Hi
This helped me, but, I suggest seeking professional advice before taking on my suggestion...
I suffered with terrible acne throughout my teens and early twenties and my doctor had me on every antibiotic under the sun - nothing cleared it up. Then I started going to a beautician who gave me lots of great advice about my diet. The acne started to clear up straight away and within 6 months was completely gone - never to return. This is what she told me:
Avoid:
Fizzy pop
Chocolate, sweets and cakes
Crisps, chips and fried food
Animal fats
Eat lots of:
Fresh fruit and veg
Drink plenty of water
Take suppliments:
Vitamin B12
Vitamin E
Also use vitamin E oil to massage into the skin, it helps the healing process.
I would also recommend the use of Tee Tree Oil as it is a natural cleanser and antiseptic and will kill the bacteria which causes spots.
I'm sure a three day detox will do you no harm but I would recommend a longer term approach where you eat sensibly. My doctor insisted that diet did not have any great bearing upon my condition but he was very WRONG!
Hope this helps.
