do you need to concentrate?
Question:

Hi,
I have sent some distant treatments today and I noticed that with one of them, when I concentrated on the person I was sending to the heat between my hands intensified.
I wondered whether it is preferable to concentrate on doing the Reiki treatment, whether distant or hands on, or whether the ones I do in front of the telly would be just as effective?
I know it sounds unprofessional to not concentrate but I am not a professional Reiki healer and I am working on, and sending to, family and friends so I am not taking money under false pretences!!! :)

Hi Floffle, I think you've answered your own question!
What do you think? Imagine a client coming to see you and as they are lying on the couch, you are giving them healing and at the same time watching tv?????
Intent is the most important thing in healing, set your intent and the energy will follow.

Hi Rosi,

Your quote above is what has confused me as I have read this on HP so many times!![sm=scratchchin.gif]
I do set my intent at the beginning so apparently the energy will follow. So, having done that, do I still need to have my mind on the treatment all the time or is the intent at the start enough?
I have sent treatments while settting the intent at the start and then my mind has been on other things and my friend still reported benefits from it so I am still a little confused!

Hi Floffle, I'll try and explain it in a different way.
It's good practice to focus on what we are doing, that's not to say that our minds won't wonder, sometimes it does, and mine does too, but I find that if I stay focused on what I'm doing, the healing is on a different level.
Especially when giving treatments and the person is there with you. The more we can still our mind, the more we are guided to the right place and given information as the treatment progresses. I am in no way saying that the energy won't flow, but when you are working with Spirit, they do like you to focus, and take it seriously.
Why don't you give it a go to see if you feel any difference, next time you send distant healing, try and remain focused for the duration, and see if you can notice any differences.

Hi Rosi,
That makes sense!
I wasn't saying that I never concentrate, I don't want to give the impression that I am slap dash,[sm=dance.gif] I do take Reiki seriously and am constantly amazed and delighted at what it can do, it was all that stuff about intent that got me wondering!
As to what you said about working with spirit, when I asked my spirit guide(s) and angel(s) and those of the person I was sending to for help, the heat intensified so they do seem to be helping!
Thanks for your help,

Hi Floffle, Rosi
If your intent is that the Reiki should flow whilst your hands are on the person then that is what should happen.
Likewise, there is no reason why you can't intend for the reiki to keep flowing to a person even after you've finished a hands on treatment.
It would be interesting to experiment and see.

Enrgy flows anyway. If you concentrate on yoru hands, you are more likely to feel heat or whatever sensation is happening to you. As for the receiver, make soem experimetations: agree to send them reiki every evening for a week. Ask them to keep note of how things felt everytime. Then keep track on your side of whetehr you sen dReiki concnetrating on th epeorsn or while minding other business. COmpare notes ONLY at the end of the week...

Dear Floffle,
If you want to get the best out of Reiki you need to be mindful: fully engaged in what you are doing, so that excludes television. If you watch TV while doing Reiki then you're not giving your best, whether you are self-treating, doing distant healing or treating others.
Best wishes,

interesting question... i do find that i need to concentrate, quite hard sometimes, especially at the beginning of a treatment... its almost like i need to know and feel that reiki is doing its thing. once it gets going i can chat to the recipient, if thats what they want. i happen to like doing reiki in a no chatting atmosphere... i find it a medititive time for me too.
