Very new to these forum things.. How exciting!!
I've been visiting these threads for a few days now after this forum came very highly recommended & have already found much guidance to things I've been interested in.
Looking forward to sharing light & information - Our main interest & specialist topic is Crystology.
We've just got back from Tucson Az where we attended the Biggest Rock & Gem Show in the world!! We were quite lucky to bring back some rare & unusual minerals such as Ethiopian Opal & The Melody Green Mine Quartz - Both are very special & wonderful to work with.
Also a newly discovered Grand Formation to look out for is Boekenhout Japer aka Spirit Quartz Jasper.
Boekenhout Jasper is so named for it's locality in South Africa & the chemical composition is that of both Jasper & Quartz. In some cases the Jasper has engulfed the crystals which were floating during upheaval & earth changes, this means that the entire structure of the quartz crystal remains as a pattern within the mass.
It is a stone of 'the silver lining'. A wonderful stone for healing. The crystals within the Jasper were used in Lemurian healing ceremonies & retain the knowledge of use & the methods of facilitation.

I bought an ethiopian crystal the other week, there are some poor specimens out there but the one I have is nestled in a half cut "boiled egg" shap if that makes any sense, the colours are truely stunning....
I note in your post you say "our", just a quickie to say if there are two of you actively posting can you please ensure you both have your own user names otherwise it gets very complicated to know who we are talking to...

The method for mining the ethiopian opal is pretty primative, but earth friendly so it's not surprising to find many poor specimens, although there are plenty of stunners out there! Most appear as a nodular / egg shape & smell of chocolate toffee!!!!
I was talking about my Mum & I as we share the interest - Only one of us actively posting though.
