Question:
Hi everyone
I'm not an aromatherapist but I am in the process of setting up as a Reiki practitioner. As part of the treatment I was going to let my client (sniff and ) choose from a range of essential oils, my thought being that their body/higher self knows what's best. Now I don't know whether that is done at all.
I want to specialise in women's health, antenatal and postnatal care and was wondering whether there are any special blends you may recommend, or easy to understand books for that matter ( I don't yet want to train in aromatherapy..) I
I have looked at the Tisserand blended oils range from serenity to euphoria, as I was thinking along those lines of having maybe six or so oils to choose from to suit, relaxation, stress relief, calming, energising etc.
Any advice on this and maybe even where to get stuff online would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Gwenllian

I'm sure you will get lots of comments on your inquiry, but as you are not an aromatherapist, your insurance will not allow you to use any essential oils on your clients, even if they select them themselves (this is because of possible reactions, which is why training is so important).
I'm not quite sure what you want to use the essential oils for, but using pre-blended oils, such as the Tisserand one you mentioned is the best way to go.
I really don't mean to sound rude, but if you don't want to train in aromatherapy yet, why are considering using it in your business?
Hi Angel Fish
Sorry I didn't explain myself properly, I guess. I just want to use the essential oils in a burner, not actually on people - basically as an enhancing fragrance in the background but I know that just smelling it makes a difference to me....
Thanks for your advice,
Gwenllian

Aaaha, I see, sorry if I sounded tetchy. I would still stick with blends, in that way you can't go wrong. Personally I think it is nice to have the oil burner on before my clients arrive as this creates a nice first impression; as it can take a while for the aroma to develop. Sometimes clients don't want the stress of making any decisions and you will look like you have made an effort to create an ambient and caring atmosphere.
