I am a Reiki practitioner and am interested in how other Reiki practitioners feel about the interaction of Reiki with the chakras.

The chakras and meridians together with the energy matrix is what energy work is all about outside of our personal journeys with the various energies of course :-)

Thanks for your comments. My RM taught me that Chakra cleansing and balancing using Reiki should be done seperately before a Reiki treatment in order to have a 'clean' flow of energy through the meridians. Is this necessary?
Also, I was taught that in a Chakra treatment, we start at the Crown and work towards the Base - this would follow the normal flow of Reiki energy through the Crown, to the Heart and then the hands. However, when balancing the Chakras without using Reiki, some practitioners start at the base and work up. Does it matter which way one goes?

Chakra work is not really the domain of Reiki but it is energy work so a good question :-)
The cleansing, balancing and energising of chakras and the energy pathways is an intricate part of the treatment and should not be thought of as a separate activity.
They can be done in any order and you should see if all of the chakras are equal to each other at the end of the treatment or they will need fine tuning :-)
The way the energy flows is only partly to do with the modality you are using, Reiki is believed to come from above but that was not the original way of working which encompassed the whole (as above so below).
In reality the energy flows in and out from all around us though it is more noticeable in the feet, hands and crown. Some modalities seem to rely on the feet and channel the main energy upwards as in Kundalini Reiki, Western Reiki travels mainly downward but that is more to do with the attunement process.
But that does not stop you from channelling the earth energy up through your legs and base chakra, please follow your intuition and not the teachings you have received and you wont go far wrong :-)

Hi Selenite, as Paul says, best thing to do is follow your instincts and not get hung up on teachings. I was never taught chakra work at all but have found myself on occasion balancing them and sometimes 'pulling' energy from them. I have followed my instincts on all such occasions and have found that the chakras manage quite well without my assumptions of any particular way to treat them. ;)
I do keep a quartz pendulum around though, to check that any treatment is complete and that the chakra is balanced before I leave it. I tend toward the opinion that chakras take care of themselves and don't need anyone 'poking around' unless invited! :D
