EBay advice - item not received by buyer?!?!
Question:

EBay advice - item not received by buyer?!?!
  Hello lovelies
Really hoping you can help as am a bit worried. I'm not a big EBay seller, but I recently sold a few things off. I have just got an email from someone saying they haven't received the item yet, and I sent it just over a week ago first class.
I don't know what to say to them - it wasn't registered post or anything (and wasn't advertised as such). I used Royal Mail online postage thing so I have proof that I bought the postage, but not that I sent it.
Does anyone know what I can do about this? It's a bit of a sitch because obviously I don't have the item anymore so don't want to refund them for it, but they haven't received it either so will want their money back. Gulp :(
xx

Oh how worrying for you, could it be taking longer in the post due to more Xmas parcels? I just received a parcel which took 8 days to get to me.

Probably not much help now, but in future it's worth getting proof of posting, which is free - that way you can argue that you posted it and it's not your fault it got lost.
It may be still on the way though, so I wouldn't worry too much just yet.

The item is not considered as missing until it's been gone for more than 14 working days so you'll have to tell her to be patient. If it still hasn't arrived by then you'll probably have to refund and claim your money back from Royal Mail.
I had a buyer who emailed me about an item that didn't arrive after 3 working days. She then continued to harrass me every few days despite me explaining to her that there's nothing I could do until the item was officially considered missing. The item arrived after 13-14 working days in the end  I now post everything recorded delivery so I always have a proof of postage and delivery. Simple proof of posting is not enough to protect you against chargebacks through PayPay, you have to be able to prove that item was delivered or you are screwed, sadly.
Good luck, hope it still turns up!

Thanks muchly. I thought it was 14 days too (having been at the receiving end with a CD taking 8 days to get to me). Hmmm, maybe it will turn up eventually then - but I'm off on holiday for 2 weeks tomorrow so might have to politely tell her that, then say will sort it out on my return if it still hasn't shown.
Annoyed though, the cynic in me can't help but think "but she could be lying and happily wearing it!!!". Will deffo just do recorded delivery next time - although is a bit of a hassle as that means going to the post office etc.
Thank you for your advice - fingers crossed!!
