Markets in London - Mondays and Tuesdays
Question:

Markets in London - Mondays and Tuesdays
I have to be in London on the 4th of December (A Monday) for a shitty appointment, but Mr FP has decided that we're going to stay an extra day and have a mooch around the markets/antique/vintage shops.
But I know bog all about London so I do need help!
Now, I'll be based in Hackney (apparently, according to the wumman who's organising all this, I'm to expect horrible things :cmdunno: ) so although I don't mind a long tube journey, I would prefer to know where I'm going and do one area rather than spread myself all over the show as we do have a limited time scale.
I'm really looking for vintage or handmade quirky jewellery and unusual fabrics and papers, and Mr FP is into *cough* toys  (of the geeky collectable variety - action men, star wars, dr who etc).
Any reccomendations?

Hmmm can't help you on the markets but don't fear Hackney. I work in Crackney, I mean Hackney. It's not like you'll be walking through estates at 1am saying rather loudly "Oooh I've never been to London before, I'm sooooooo lost!!" - you'll be fine!
I'm sure there are loads of "quirky" shops in Shoreditch (5 mins from Hackney) but I dunno where and I don't think the market's open Monday and Tuesdays ..not sure.

If you want quirky and arty stuff Camden is the place to go-it's great. It has markets all week (well it has everytime I've been there) It is a bit out of your way though and would involve a walk/bus ride and a tube on the Northern Line. I don't know where you are staying in Hackney so can't give you directions. If you know what part you'll be in chek this site out, it's the transport for London site. Go to Journey Planner and it will tell you how to get to there.

The 253 bus will take you from Hackney to Camden - will take about 40 mins if you fancy the "scenic" route :p

I'd also check the area around Brick Lane / Spitalfields Market as there are quirky little shops there and that's pretty close to you. I think Portobello is open on Tue (but I'm not sure) but that's across town.
