Question:
Shopping in London
Hi girls,
This is my first post here and am looking for a bit of advice.
Myself and a pal are off to London soon for a weekend and I was wondering where we should go for hight street clothes shopping. Oxford Street is on the list of course but can anyone recommend other spots please? What about Camden and Portabello - should we go there?
Also, I know this isnt the forum for this but I would welcome any tips for trendy pubs/restaurants thats arent over-priced. We are coming from Ireland on 17th March and staying in a hotel in Paddington. Its St Patrick's Day so the drinks will be flowing! I lived in London for years but havent been back in a long time.
Thanks in advance girls
Hi Casio
If you are only after high street shopping yes Oxford Circus is the place, along with High Street Kensington and Covent Garden. All pretty much the same shops though so I wouldn't bother going to all 3. Or, you could pop along to Selfridges where you've got Spirit to the side of it which has lots of concessions - Warehouse, Oasis, TS, Karen Millen, Diesel, etc etc so if the weather is crap and your feet are aching you could just head for there.
Camden is more quirky emo type shops and has the market on a Sunday.
Portobello has boutiques and a few high street shops but best of all has the market on the Saturday, need to get here early as it's very busy.
Spitalfields on Sunday's is good and you can walk along Brick Lane to the markets along there and Petticoat lane. Plus there's a huge All Saints, Tatty Devine, The Comfort Station, Absolute Vintage, Start, Blondie etc etc. It's all a bit spread out so do your homework first there on where you want to go.
If you are after Irish celebrations on St.Paddy's day most pubs will be packed, try Waxy O'Conners and O'Neills, think these are Wardour Street but can't think off hand, just along from Charles Worthington. It will only be the typical old boozer type pubs that will be celebrating it,doubt any of the bars will be.
Depends on what music/drinks/food and how much you want to pay as to where to go for drinks and eats? Can recommend some places if you are more specific.
Hope this helps! x
Shopping in London
Thanks for your prompt reply Girl and the City - and the fab tips. We are over for til Tuesday night so have plenty of time to shop.
Its my friends 30th birthday over the weekend so I wanted to take her somewhere nice - she was supposed to be going with her boyfriend but they have broken up and Im taking his place. So a nice meal following by a trendy lively bar would be ideal - I cant be more specific than that cos I dont know myself! Im 37 by the way so a bar with with an older crowd (30's upwards) would be better for moi!
Thanks again.
Ok cool.

Match bar has yummy cocktails http://www.worldsbestbars.com/city/s...bar-london.htm and is round the corner from Oxford St/Regent St.
Here is fab too - great cocktails in Lounge Lover, bit ut's a bit out the way maybe for you. http://www.worldsbestbars.com/city/c...ver-london.htm
Lastly, I love love this restaurant, www.maggiores.uk.com
I like the Kings Road for shopping. It's got a good mix of high st shops and small boutiques. Start at the Sloane Square end and you've got Peter Jones (John Lewis) and the Duke of York square shops. There are also some fab boutiques along Sloane Street itself. French Sole is just off Sloane Street!
On Kings Road, you've got the only Coccinelle here shop in London (they do great bags).
