Question:
Ideas needed for fat girl at May wedding
Hello!
Arrived at boyfriend's parents' house last night to find an invite to the wedding of one of his cousins in May. We've been invited to the actual ceremony (late afternoon) and the reception (evening).
Thing is, I have no idea what to wear. I haven't been to a wedding for years, and I can't even remember whether this one is in a church or a wedding type venue, which I know isn't much help.
I am a size 22, which I know narrows your options, but I do still have an hourglass figure (it's just a bigger hourglass than normal!). I don't mind flashing a bit of chest, but I don't like having my arms uncovered. I'm about 5'6, don't really do high heels, but apart from that I'm a blank canvas. I normally live in skirts and knee high boots from Sept onwards, but I'm thinking as it's May, I need to be a bit more summery, and I have no idea.
I want to look stunning for my boyfriend, classy for the cousins who always look down their noses at me, and nice for his parents!
Are the fashion baggers up for this challenge?! :)
Hi! First of all you are not fat, just curvy.
I too am curvy and am a huge fan of wrap dresses. They cover a multitude of sins and enhance our hour glass shape, and are comfy to wear. Or an empire line dress that yucks in under the boobs and skims everything else?
Also, chunky heels (pref wedges) make calfs look slimmer, and get the dress to finish on your knee so as not finishing mid calf, which is my widest part and just makes me look chunkier.
Or smart trousers and a floaty top? I am a great believer in diversion tactics, so show some cleavage and people won't look any further!!
Have a look at next online and M&S plus sized, and good luck.
Additions have some nice stuff, have a look on their website, something like this:

(my personal fave) might be nice, could be worn with a nice shrug in a contrasting colour and some cute pumps or very low kitten heels? Additions sprung to mind but a fair few other retailers like DP, evans and M&S might have something closer to what you might be looking for?
Oh don't worry Anlav, I fully accept that I am fat, rather than any of the cutesy other words! :)
I hadn't thought of wrap dresses, will definitely take a look for some of those. I worry about floaty / empire line / smock tops, that I will look pregnant - obviously not a rumour I want to start at someone else's wedding!
Thanks for those links too - I'll get hunting :)
Feel free to chuck other things at me!
ooh I think the pink strapless dress Adastrea suggested is gorgeous, could be worn with a black cardi type thing and kitten heels, beaooootiful!
