Question:
Slightly O/T - Storing clothes??
Hi peeps, am having a bit of a dilemma at the moment, and your help would be *hugely* appreciated...
Basically, I have too much stuff (mainly clothes & shoes) for the size of my room :cmdunno: I live with my parents and my room is only small, most of which is taken up by my big desk :writing: which I need to keep for uni purposes, my bed and chest of drawers... I don't have space for a wardrobe and I don't have much cash to spend...
So how do I get around this problem? There is room under my bed for stuff (well there will be once I've sorted through the crap under there and binned what I no longer need :o) and I have a 3 hooks on the back of my door.
I have this:
http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/store...roductId=11009
if that's any help?? Also have one of the drawer dividers from IKEA too for my underwear drawer (that's about the only one that is organised :( )
I'm just sick and tired of all my stuff being in a mess!
ETA: Am willing to bin old clothes - anyone have any tips on sorting them and knowing what to throw/what to keep? Have looked on google but needed tips from peeps IRL IYSWIM?
Lakeland have loads of storage options so its worth having a look on that site. They have good storage things you can hook over your door. They also have extra large plastic boxes on rollers that fit under beds and these fit HUGE amounts of stuff in. However, it might be better to use them for things like sweaters, jeans, t's that you can stack up. One would also be pretty good for chucking shoes and bags in. Also, what about storage options under your desk or putting shelves up on walls ? If you can hang some shelves you can use that space to put boxes of clothes or to sit your here and shoes along - they will get dusty though.
re what to throw and what to keep, I;m not sure what you're asking...... but if its manky, bin it. If you no longer wear it, don't think you'll wear it and its in good condition then consider ebay or donate to a charity shop. If its something seasonal that you think you will wear next year or you like but aren't wearing it now then store it in vacuum bags (suck all the air out of clothes so you can smoosh them down and they take up less space - excellent idea for sweaters etc when it comes to summer).
I always have this problem!
When I moved house I bought some plastic zip bags (designed to go under bed) very cheaply from Argos just to help move things more easily.
They were so useful that I have kept them and now use them for stashing winter clothes in the summer and summer clothes in the winter.
It's best to wash everything before you store it so it stays fresher.
I have the same problem and really need to do a clearout. I always seem to hold onto things just in case they come in handy....I don't know what to keep and what to throw out either....isn't it stuff you havent wore within the last year? :cmdunno:
I've just had a big clear out of my clothes.
I was helped by some tips from instyle magazine which were
Make sure all your clothes are ones you like and wear. I ended up trying clothes on and being really picky like when you're shopping. If I didn't love it it was going in the recycling. You might like some things but if they don't fit right then either adjust them or get rid.
If you've got things of sentimental value or big heavy jumpers store these away out of sight. The same goes for things you wear once in a blue moon.
I'm a lot happier now I've had a clearout. It's a lot easier picking things to wear when you don't have to go on a treasure hunt :cmdunno:
