Question:
Dumpy and lumpy, don't want to look frumpy
See what I did there? :D
Anyway, I have put on some weight over the last year, so in addition to mighty thighs and a sizeable arse (funny, I don't really mind having a big, curvy bum), I now have a podgy belly too. And I'm short. So....what the heck do I wear? I have reasonably sized boobs, and quite a small waist, but I struggle to find things that will hide my tum and thighs but show off my waist.
I like the tunic tops that are about at the moment, and love empire line stuff, but that just makes me look like I'm trying to hide my stomach (yes, I am, but I don't want it to look that obvious).
Any advice/ideas for what I could be looking for would be appreciated, as I'm up for buying a load of new stuff. I quite fancy wearing trousers again, as I'm tiring of flouncy skirts. And I don't like short-sleeved stuff - elbow length or longer is preferred.
Oh, and I'm in Holland, so I have an H&M and...that's about it. But I can look for styles and shapes if not exact items.
Thanks in advance. [/incredibly long waffly post]
Well, I have about the same bodytype as you (except for the small waist), and I live in Holland too..
What about the wrap dresses at H&M: I always find them flattering for a curvier figure, and you can draw them as tight around your waist/ belly as you like. A little pattern also distracts from any bulges.
Straight leg trousers with high heels and wrap around cardis are also flattering: WE has some nice ones, although I do find their sizing to be on the long side (often the waist ends up on my hips: I am 6.5 and wear Dutch size 40).
And slightly flaring/ bootleg jeans are also still best for evening out curves, although I also do wear straight leg jeans too (but not ultra skinnies).
Weren't you living in the area of Eindhoven? I have not been shopping there for along time (am orginally from Eindhoven but live close to Hilversum now), but they normally have plenty of shops. The Bijenkorf has some nice and classy, flattering brands normally too (Mexx etc).
Also Vero Moda tends to be good, as it is scandinavian
Good luck!!

Hi Nijntje (great name, by the way :D ). Thanks for your reply.
Yup, I wasn't necessarily knocking the shops in Holland, just saying that if people posted pics of things in, say, Dorothy Perkins, I wouldn't be able to buy them, so that would be cruel. :D
I already have a few wrap dresses, but always feel like I have to wear Spanx underneath them, and that's not good for my IBS, wearing tight stuff each day. *bloats*
I shall have a look at the trousers in WE - I like wrap cardis too, but I want them longer length so they cover my tum. I shopped for clothes in the Bijenkorf for the first time recently, and they did have some nice stuff. It was a bit hit and miss though - I'd find only one or two of each item, and rarely in my size. Some lovely things though, and classier than some of the things I've seen recently in H&M (I think I'm going off H&M  ).
Hi PV (just curious: where do you get your name from?).
Rest assured: I was not thinking at all you that you were slagging off the shops in Holland. I do get frustrated myself quite often on this forum when I see something lovely being posted that I know I just cannot get!!
Anyway:Have you also considered A line skirts? These are great for hiding a biggish bum and belly, while still being flattering and feminine. And you can decide to jazz them up with boots or some funky high heels to avoid them being too frumpy. On top you can wear something that is not too baggy but not too clingy either, so your show off your curves without showing lumps.
I agree that H&M is a bit hit and miss: sometimes I do not find anything I like for ages, and that all of sudden they have heaps of stuff that I love in. So you jus have to keep on trying I guess...
They also have Zara in some cities in Holland?
Sometimes I even find a bargain at Zeeman
