Question:
Any 'Gift' charges from america?
Hi :D
I want to order a watch off ebay from Amercia, she said she'll mark it as a gift under the value that its worth, will i still get charged a custom thingy?
If so any ideas how much?
Thanks

I don't think you get charged if it's marked as gift...............
I think it depends on the value she puts, as gifts worth over £36 are technically liable for import duty. Even if the seller marks it as a gift, if she states a value over £36 there's a small chance you will still be charged.
In practice I suppose customs are more likely to let through a parcel they think is a present, even if the value is over £36. Particularly if it's in a plain envelope, and sent airmail (It certainly seems that people get caught more often by charges if things are sent via a courier or express mail service).
Oh, and in my experience customs charges should be around 20% of the price you paid (cost of the watch AND the cost of postage). You might also have to pay a 'handling fee' to whoever delivers it here (Parcelforce charge £8, I think). But sometimes people have to pay much more, and so there's no really accurate way of telling.
Sorry I can't be more definite but whether or not you get charged for customs is completely unpredictable!

I second this. I've been charged on occasion for gifts but normally when they're delivered by courier. It's unpredictable though.
