Question:
Ball Gown Help?
Normally this sort of thing would delight me, but I have no money and I'm graduating in June.
I need to pay at least £40 for the ticket to the ball, plus transport, plus I'll be drinking (a little) and I need to pay for the actual graduation ceremony and the gown to graduate in! Not to mention the £2000 you need to pay to the government to graduate :boohoo:
I've been looking around on the internet, but I'm not really sure what I'm looking for! I'm in Glasgow and I'm struggling to find places nearby that do dress hire? Also wondering if anyone can recommend cheap ways of buying/geting a dress made?
I found a woman from China on Ebay (another Jennifer!) who does them tailor made for under £100, but I'm put off spending that much money on ebay without any real recommendations and I dont know what I would do if I got a dress and it turned out crap!
I dont know if anyone can help me, I'm just really stressing!
Maybe I'll buy something beautiful and expensive and use The Blondes zip tampering technique!:p
I don't know what style you are looking for, but try looking at this Debenhams sale ball gown page http://www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/...10001_59718_-1
This is the main ball gown page http://www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/...10001_17719_-1
They also have a large selection of shorter dresses if you have a browse around the site.
It's a shame Allders went bankrupt, they were great for these sort of dresses. I bought a beautiful one for £60 at Allders and it's a classic design so it's been pulled out of the wardrobe a few times for black tie functions. Actually, if you live anywhere near Croydon they have the one and only Allders left.
ETA Have you looked at second hand dresses on ebay? A lot of them have only been worn once for a function before they are sold on.
There is a place listed on this page here - the Cinderella company. The website doesnt work but you could always give them a phone instead. Dont know whereabouts you are in Glasgow but the company is based in the Scotstoun/Jordanhill area.

Thanks girls! I can pop into Debenhams and TK Maxx this afternoon or tomorrow (if I can restrain myself for another day!)
Theres a couple of places close by on that promdresses site and one near where OH lives so I'll probably email them first to get an idea of prices and its easy enough to get there. Although one of them had a special offers section "from £475"
Ebay I thought about, but I think I'd need to try it on or stick to ones from Monsoon, Debenhams etc so I could try something in a similar shape in the shop! I'm quite bottom heavy so trying on dresses is generally a must! I'll start looking though...
hmm, If you find something you like in monsoon/coast you could then track it down on ebay. I saw my dream dress in monsoon but it was £225 so looked all over ebay for it, and got it for £25 all in (and it was brand new)
good luck!
