Any ideas on what to do with old jeans..??

I have a pair of jeans that I dont really wear anymore cos of a bbbigggg rip across one knee - it doesnt look right so I cant pass them off as being distressed jeans lol! However, they are still a really nice fit - is there anything I can do to them?!?!!!!
With the help of my amazingly talented mum, we turned an old (and honestly, rather ugly) pair of my jeans into a super cute skirt!
turn them into shorts / hot pants?
make a bag out of the bum (but that will stop you wearing them)
A skirt?
years ago, a friend of mine with this problem turned a pair of her jeans into a skirt... I think she used the spare fabric from the cut off leg, as an inserted panel at the front and the back
I made this skirt from a pair of jeans which no longer flattered as jeans, but as a skirt its ok. Have since shortened it down to a mini.

Yeah I quite fancy making it into a skirt actually - does anyone have instructions on how to do it?! Never attempted anything like that before! Also shorts would be cool - is it just a case of chopping off legs and leaving them like that - or did you make other amends..???
