Question:
Does anyone else ever feel like this?
I've got some nice clothes in my wardrobe but I always end up wearing the same old thing.
For example, I've got a gorg grey dress which falls a few inches below my knee. I've got some navy knee high boots and a navy belt to wear with it and I think It looks nice, but I chicken out of wearing it.
We never have anywhere dressy to go to, normally the pub, a restuarant or round to a friends, so I always feel overdressed.
My mates are jeans and t shirt girls, although they say they love what I wear I always feel self concious.
Most of the time I'll end up with black trousers or jeans on.
Does anyone else ever get like this?
Yes I do. I have some nice things, although nothing really posh or expensive, but I often end up wearing the same old (boring) thing. It's not v fashionable where I live, so I feel self-conscious if I wear anything different. I know I shouldn't care if I'm happy with what I'm wearing. I should make more of an effort to experiment with what I've got in my wardrobe.
I think Glitter Junkie posted a fairly similiar thread a little while ago and there were lots of interesting posts on there.
My attitude, especially as I've got older and developed a certain "I don't give a damn" attitude  is that I just wear whatever I want, and care not at all for other people's opinions. Obviously I keep things in check at work and try to keep the outfits vaguely appropriate for what I'm doing :p, but otherwise I figure that I've got loads of nice clothes which I want to wear, and that life's too short to worry about whatever other people think.
Your outfit sounds fab, btw - wear it!!!
Hi,
I used to feel like this all the time. I don't go to dressy places all that often either so tended to stick to the same, 'safe' things. Then I thought - B*gger it! so now I just wear what I want - Granted, I do get some funny looks from people in the office but I have to say I actually get more compliments now than I every did when I blended in.
As long as you don't feel so uncomfortable you will be pulling at your clothes all day, I say wear it. People will start to admire your individual style. You never know, your friends may take inspiration (sp?) from you.
Ruthless
Yes! But kind of the opposite :cmdunno:
I love my clothes, usually wear dresses with slouchy cardigans, opaques and boots, or skinny jeans and trapeze style tunics for work (very casual office) - not exactly 'out there'!
But recently, being a lazy bum that I am, I haven't done any washing :o so have had to reach to the 'never worn' section of my wardrobe, which consists of plain tops and tshirts, with bootcut jeans, or knee length wool shorts from when they first came into fashion a few years ago - although not too 'dated' I just feel so frumpy in them due to the cut etc!
Anyway, to get back to my point, This week wearing my most frumpy, unstylish clothes, I've had more compliments from collegues than in the last 6 weeks of wearing clothes in my normal style - and its really given my confidence a bashing - part of me doesn't want to return to the normal 'me' as I'm convinced everyone thinks I look scuzzy in them!
Phew :faint: rant there, and probably not what you were meaning, but basically I'm trying to say, don't worry about what others like you to wear - just wear the things you like!!
