A big hello...and a help!
Question:

A big hello...and a help!
  Hey everyone *madly waves*
I have posted on here before, but quite infrequently and usually only when I'm in need of help, so I'm sorry for my previous behaviour! But I do lurk around browsing the Fashion forum in particular, but in a way just wanted to introduce myself and also say I'm hoping to be sticking around for longer and actually contribute to threads more :o I'm 18 and in my first year at uni so unfortunately can only shop at student prices at the moment! But a girl can window shop, eh?
Anyway, as always when I seem to post here and after having a peek at one or two Style Diary links there are a lot of fashionable girlies about, I wouldn't mind getting some advice: I am really really self-conscious about the way I look, in particular my stomach and back, and can never seem to dress correctly for it - I get much more than a muffin top when I wear jeans, as when I gain weight it just goes wooooosh to that area! Other than that I have quite slim legs and arms, but I am pushed into a size 14/16. I only feel comfortable in empire line tops or hoodies, so the stomach area is covered but the first make me look pregnant and the second don't make me feel very girly, especially as I love to wear skirts :(
So, any tips for what style of clothes I should maybe go for? Looking in the sales, there's some gorgeous stuff about (Jesus, I could buy the whole of Urban Outfitters if I had the money!) but I can never seem to be that stylish.
Thanks!

to cover up the dreaded muffin top, wear a longline vest under tops that may be a bit shorter, of there are lots of longline tunic tops at the moment which are great, or even put a dress over the top.
Shift dresses can be so flattering worn with matt opaque tights and can be bought for £10 from primark.
If you wear volume on the top part the general rule is to tighten up the bottom, by wearing skinnies or leggings, hese look great tucked into boots.
I am sure the other girls will have lots of brilliant advice. :)

Hiya
I've bought a couple of great tops from primark that are tunic-like. They've got slight bell sleeves, fairly long and loose in the body, but don't look too maternity-like. I always go for the ones made out of cotton, because the viscose ones shrink massively. Look great with fitted trousers for those of us who have a tum, and are more feminine than hoodies.

missbhave - thanks, I'll try the layering idea :) I've never worn a tunic style top though, so not really sure of what to look for... is it best to go for long or short sleeves?
cherrystar - thanks, I'll check out Primark pronto - I hate viscose tops (though often they are the prettiest tops!) since they cling really badly :(

i like tops/dresses with shorter sleeves so i can wear them over long sleeved jersey ones but it's just down to choice really. Topshop have had some really great long sleeved tunics that are almost dresses.
At the moment there is a raspberry knited tunic/dress that looks great over trousers with a top underneath.
