Question:
dry clean my ar*e!
i hate it when clothes say this. ive just washed a satin skirt from coast in the machine and its fine, but i was so worried for the 2 hours it was in there that it was being ruined - took it out and no, its fine of course!
saved me a bit of money anyway...
I never dry clean :o
I find that most things are ok to wash on a gentle cycle.
I once ruined a top though by putting it in the machine but it had loads of beading/sequins on so i think i was a bit of a dumbass for using the machine.

actually i put a top with a beaded section in as well and that was fine too, i was probably a bit lucky though! the skirt was satin with an underskirt but it wasnt particularly delicate, i hate that they put that to cover themselves even when they dont need to.
i put tights in the machine too, i never handwash anything :o
I've recently handwashed a couple of things that were dry clean only and they've been ruined. A knitted shrug from Reiss that practically disolved and a silk top from TS where the stitching came undone.
I have a specialist dry cleaner I go to, and if it's something I really love, I don't think I'd take the risk with even handwashing anymore. :(
My washing machine is the devil's washing machine and regularly shrinks washable stuff even on a cool wash.

yikes! i'd have thought if you carefully handwashed you'd be safe...
