Making a tutu...
Question:

Making a tutu...
Has anyone ever tried to make a tutu? I need one for a fancy dress party, and being totally uncreative, I need to start early! I've bought the tulle, but was wondering if anyone can give me any tips.
I have googled it, but the search is returning ballerina tutu's, which are a bit too technical!

I made some dead simple wrap around ones for work when we were having a fairy dress up theme last christmas, you will need a sewing machine though. I also used a pink ribbon to make the waistband.
Ciut the tulle to the length desired (by this I mean the length of the skirt), you will need enough tulle for about three layers. Each piece should be about three times the measurement of your waist to allow for gathering.
Using a long stitch on the sewing machine stitch all layers together, leaving the threads long at either end. Use these to gather tulle to a length of about your waist measurement and a quarter.
Make sure the ribbon you buy is about three times your waist measurement again, and using a zig zag stitch and a thread in the same colour as your ribbon stitch the gathered tulle into the middle of the ribbon length, so that there is an equal amount of ribbon on each side. Do this fairly near the top so that no tulle pokes out.
Et Voila, simply wrap around your waist and tie in a big bow and you're done. It doesn't look as professional as doing it properly would, but since it is only halloween, it's probably the simplest way.
