'IT' Bags- are you sick of them?
Question:

'IT' Bags- are you sick of them?
I am a bag person all the way but I've got to say that I am getting really sick of the IT bag phenomena and the way that prices for bags seem to be going up, or is that just me, any baggers feel the same?
I always thought that buying designer accessories was a cheaper way to buy yourself a bit of designer cred but now when I look at some of the proces of the bags etc I just think that a desgner piece of clothing would be cheaper,

It makes me think of Tulipmania - hyper-inflated prices that bear no relation to any objective measure of value. Especially so when I hear people talking about buying a bag as an "investment".

I was thinking about this the other night. The prices do seem to be soaring. I remember buying fakes back in the day for a third of what the real deal cost. Now they seem to be more like a sixth! (Which is only going to encourage more fakes). Even in the sales my budget doesn't seem to go anywhere.

The IT bag phenomena is incredible - I think it started back in the day of the Luella Giselle and the Mulberry Roxy, and then all the designers jumped on the bandwagon. I think prices are outrageous but am clearly a sucker and still pay for the ones I like - I know I am probably keeping the designers' kids in private school or something....
On the other hand, nobody is forcing me to buy any IT bag and I don't fall for it just becos it's an IT bag. I only buy bags I like not becos so-and-so is wearing it.

IT bags by their very nature make it extremely uneconomical to follow every trend. However, something classic like a nice Mulberry or the Le Dix Motorcycle are investments, especially if you only buy one or two a year.
I have about two replica IT bags - a Fendi B, a Paddington (which is arguably a classic) and one authentic Dior Gauco and I have every confidence that within 3-5 years I won't use any of them.
