Question:
Any baggers in London today
There's free entertainment all day in Spitalfields, I popped down there at lunchtime and there were live bands, loads more stalls etc. It's just for today, I think it's to do with Spitalfields trying to get Borough Market moved there.
Is borough market closing GATC?
I might cycle past there on my way home. Sounds cool!
Not sure Lizzie, I think there's hints of it as Borough is just too squashed in now so they are saying. I personally think it will be a bit of a shame but then I also don't like to see how modern Spitalfields is going!
You are soooo good cycling to work everyday,
When I first moved to London 6 years ago Spitalfields was huge - the market didn't even fill it all. There's nothing wrong with a bit of regeneration (eg Kings Cross) but some things are special and should not be tampered with. You can hardly move in Spitalfields Market these days unless you get there at 10.30am or something. Rant over.
I understand what you're saying R_etro and to a certain extent I sympathise with it but I do find myself torn.
Undoubtedly East London is a very different place from how it was when I was growing up, in fact London as a whole seems cleaner and more vibrant and I think bus services have improved vastly, the regeneration of the some of the most deprived areas is a good thing on the whole and I certainly enjoy the new buzz of East London, but I have to say that in some ways I miss the old East End.
Back on topic though...massively tempted to skip out of work now and head over there before my train at 7pm :p
